Pixel phone users just can't take a breather. After we reported that Google Photos was broken on many Pixel phones, now we have another issue that people are mad about on Reddit. It seems that the status bar and notification shade are not working as intended on some Pixel phones.

At least three separate Reddit threads have been started to report the bug. For some Pixel users, the notification shade fails to load new notifications, and the Quick Settings icons often become unresponsive.
Many users report having the same issues in the comment sections of each one of the three threads. Some Pixel users do see notifications, but tapping on them does nothing, which is even more frustrating.
The bug is quite strange, as one of the commenters was able to open notifications from the lock screen, even though they were unresponsive in the notification shade.

The official PixelCommunity Reddit account has chimed in on each of the three posts. However, just like with the broken Google Photos app, none of the suggested actions seem to have worked.
The Google rep suggested restarting the affected phones in safe mode and resetting the app preferences, but one user commented that even a factory reset didn't fix the issue on their Pixel 8 device.

Android 17 QPR1 could be the culprit

Almost all of the reports point out that the issues began after the latest September 2026 Android update. The affected Pixel devices vary wildly, from the Pixel 6 series all the way to the Pixel 10, and also include the A series. One user reported that the issue manifests itself after a phone call.
There's no official fix at the moment, and I really hope Google rolls out an update soon, as this could sway many Pixel users, especially those with older models, to switch to a different brand.
Workarounds and suggested actions
Well, there's no real workaround for this bug at the moment, but if you haven't installed the latest update on your Pixel phone, you might want to hold your horses.
This is the only viable solution at the moment, but people tend to install big software updates as soon as they land on their phones.
