Despite some reports recently claiming that Apple was going to postpone the release of the foldable iPhone Ultra, the company is now moving forward with mass production as planned. In addition, “most” of the problems that the phone was facing in testing have apparently been resolved, especially with the hinge.
Mass production in July

According to a new report (translated source), the iPhone Ultra — which is likely going to be the name for Apple’s foldable flagship — will enter mass production in late July. By then, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will have already come out.
Initially, a trial production phase took place in April. With mass production beginning next month, we might get to see photos of working units leak before the phone’s launch in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The report also reconfirms that the base iPhone 18 and the iPhone Air 2 will be released alongside the iPhone 18e early next year following Apple’s new launch schedule.
Which of the upcoming iPhone models are you thinking of getting?
A Taiwan industry source quoted in the report claims that “most of these problems have now been resolved”. Whether that means that the iPhone Ultra will still run into these issues but after a longer period of use is not clear.
Get the iPhone Ultra at your own risk

A creaky hinge isn’t the only problem found on the iPhone Ultra. Apple postponed its plans for a foldable iPhone for so many years because it wanted to make a phone that had no visible crease at all.
According to recent reports, however, though the display and crease on the iPhone Ultra are some of the best in the industry, the crease hasn’t been eliminated completely. Furthermore, as I’ve argued before, you’re better off skipping the foldable iPhone this year because it is a first-generation product that might develop unforeseen problems down the line.
A truly special Apple event

Whatever the iPhone Ultra ends up being like, this year’s Apple event in September will be one to remember. Android foldables have existed for so long that it’s almost unbelievable that Apple has waited this long to make a foldable iPhone.
Which is why this year’s iPhone launch is going to be so memorable. Personally, though, I’m much more excited about next year’s iPhone 20 Pro.
