The Galaxy S27 Ultra battery concern is real, but the solution isn't that simple

Recently, we reported on some of the most exciting news regarding the Galaxy S27 Ultra and S27 Pro batteries. It seems that the upcoming Ultra flagship may finally break the 5,000mAh shackles. 

But leaks point to the adoption of the silicon-carbon (Si-C) battery tech, prompting us to ask how the tech giant will balance long battery life with a sleek design.

Time for innovation



Battery upgrade news is always exciting for tech fans, and it's no surprise that our poll gained plenty of attention. The results are in, and most of you believe it's time for Samsung to innovate.

Over 77% of you think that the company should adopt the new Si-C battery tech. It offers clear advantages, allowing manufacturers to increase battery capacity without making phones thicker.

The tech has already been widely adopted by Chinese manufacturers, but brands like Samsung and Apple have been more conservative in adopting it. That's because, while impressive, Si-C batteries are still relatively new in smartphones, and manufacturers must consider potential long-term reliability risks.

That’s likely why a cautious 9.4% of respondents believe Samsung shouldn't rush into new tech just yet.

If it ain't broke...


For this group, Samsung doesn't need to hurry. Instead, they'd rather the company stick to its proven Li-ion tech and simply bump up the capacity.

But if the latest Galaxy S27 Ultra battery leaks prove accurate, Samsung may take this exact middle-ground approach. Despite the rumored adoption of Si-C tech, the upcoming flagship is rumored to have a ~700mAh bigger battery. 

Regardless, the adoption of the Si-C tech will at least allow the tech giant to keep the phone slim and lightweight. In contrast, bigger Li-ion batteries require more space, so even a small capacity increase can make the device a bit thicker and heavier. 

Apparently, some users aren't willing to trade comfort for longer battery life.

Comfort over capacity



A notable 13.32% of readers would rather have a flagship phone that remains comfortable to use every day than a larger battery. For this group, there should be no compromises when it comes to weight and thickness. 

It's easy to understand why. Weighing 214g and featuring a large 6.9-inch display, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is already a substantial phone. If the next flagship debuts with a larger battery but no improvements on the tech behind it, it might be even thicker than 7.9mm, not to mention heavier.

Samsung should aim higher


Personally, I agree with most of you: it's time for Samsung to adopt the new tech. However, I wouldn't say that an increase of around 700mAh will add a meaningful difference to endurance. 

In my opinion, the company should strive for a more meaningful bump. While a 7,000mAh Galaxy S Ultra seems like a pipe dream today, it's exactly the kind of leap Si-C tech allows. If Samsung adopts it, it should double down on its efforts and give users the upgrade they've been waiting for.
