Pixel 6 users find dead pixels by the front camera and the upper right corner of the display

Some Pixel 6 series users have been complaining about black spots that have started to show up on their phones' screens. Complaints about this issue have been spotted on various forums including Reddit, Twitter, and the Google Support page. On the latter, a Pixel 6 Pro user named "Beau Youin" wrote, "The screen has developed a black dot that appears to be growing. Phone has not been dropped and has been updated. What is going on? Google support is very frustrating and doesn't allow me to chat or call anyone. And the drop down menu below doesn't let me choose the Pixel 6 Pro. WTH."

Some of those Pixel 6 series users affected have found the black dot right behind the front camera while others are complaining about the black dot that has started to form in the upper right corner of the phone. Users consider the black marking to be the work of dead pixels on the phone screen.

Most Pixel 6 series users aren't sure whether this issue is due to faulty hardware or is related to a software problem. Most believe that the issue is hardware-related which means that Pixel users with a phone exhibiting this problem will be forced to call Google, get a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number, and exchange their phone for a replacement unit.Those who consider the black dot to be a software issue can point to the experience of one user whose black dot disappeared after he installed the March security update on his Pixel 6 series handset earlier in the year.

Not everyone has had the same level of problems with their Pixel 6 series phone. This writer had been pretty unscathed until the May update led to the occasional loss of network connectivity, forcing me to toggle on and off Airplane Mode in order to restore the network connection. The under-display fingerprint scanner also got worse after recent updates although we hear that Android 13 will greatly improve the biometric reader.

Personally, I can't say that my experience with the Pixel 6 Pro was so bad that it would deter me from buying the Pixel 7 Pro. But not everyone is going to be so sanguine about this. Google is once again forced to prove that it can build a top flagship Android phone and there are a few things that Google needs to worry about. Those, like yours truly, who buy a Pixel to get an earlier shot at the next version of Android, see that Samsung and Google are now good buds and Samsung has seriously stepped up its Android update game.

And now that Motorola is once again a serious Android flagship manufacturer with the upcoming Moto X30 Pro getting a well-deserved buzz, Google needs to hold on to its legion of Pixel fans, not lose them. Google needs to give Pixel 6 series owners a special deal on the Pixel 7 models. If not, Motorola will be waiting in the wings Again, Google has not proven that it can build a high-quality flagship phone all by itself and consumers are losing patience.

It sure will be interesting to see whether Google recognizes all of the dynamics at play here. There were plenty of highs for the Alphabet subsidiary as the fourth quarter of 2021 was the best in Pixel history. And the company's first Google Tensor chipset helped create popular features like the magic eraser.

But the lows put Pixel 6 series owners in an express elevator headed directly to the basement. Some of these consumers ended up dropping their Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro for the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and Google will not get a chance to win back their business. As a result, Google needs to show those that kept their new Pixel that they did the right thing and that their belief in Google paid off.

Somewhere in Mountain View, the Pixel team should be making sure that the Pixel 7 line will deliver the phone that the Pixel 6 series should have been And then the team needs to figure out how to make sure that those who held on to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro get a shot at owning this year's models so they can finally see what Google can do with a flagship Android phone.
