Xiaomi to unveil new devices on July 27
Chinese smartphone juggernaut Xiaomi is preparing to unveil a new device – or possibly devices – at an upcoming July 27 event in Beijing. Could this be the unveiling of the two Xiaomi devices, codenamed Altun and Capricorn, that went through Geekbench earlier this month? The press conference will be held on July 27, at the Beijing National Convention Center, company spokesman Liu Hao Ran revealed yesterday. Tickets for the event will go on sale next Monday, for around $30 (199 yuan).
This might sound weird to you, and for good reason, since tech unveilings in the West are primarily attended by the press, while fans usually get the info at home via streams or news sites. Well, things are apparently different in China, or at least as far as Xiaomi's press conferences go. Considering the company's popularity in its homeland, we wouldn't be surprised if Xiaomi fans gear up for such events like they would for a rock concert.
We don't know what Xiaomi will be showing off on July 27, but if the rumors and Geekbench scores are anything to go by, it could be a new entry in the budget Redmi series, as well as a new Mi Note device.
