Nowadays, most flagship smartphones utilize either two or three rear cameras. Sony, however, has so far remained mostly loyal to the single-camera setup but with the expected arrival of the Xperia XZ4 next month, this will all change.

Until today, very little was known about the Xperia XZ4’s triple-camera setup but thanks to one pretty important leak a few of the camera setup’s key details have seemingly surfaced (via MySmartPrice). Of course, they could still be wrong so do take the info with a pinch of salt.

The Sony Xperia XZ4 could include some pretty impressive cameras
After fitting the Xperia XZ3 with a primary 19-megapixel camera complete with an f/2.0 aperture, the Xperia XZ4 will allegedly arrive with a massively-upgraded sensor that boasts a resolution of 52-megapixels. Much like Huawei, this should allow Sony to combine multiple pixels into one, thus producing a higher quality image at a resolution which is closer to 10-megapixels. This particular sensor also sports an f/1.6 aperture according to the leak which suggests low-light photography will see some drastic improvements.

As expected, the primary sensor looks set to be accompanied by a dedicated telephoto camera. At the moment, the optical zoom capabilities of it remain unclear. However, this leak points towards a resolution of 16-megapixels and an f/2.6 aperture. As a result, higher levels of detail are to be expected. However, the aperture does suggest the sensor will struggle with lighting more than others.

Lastly, the Xperia XZ4 will seemingly arrive equipped with a 0.3-megapixel Time-of-Flight sensor. This doesn’t sound like much but it should help with depth sensing quite a bit. As a result, bokeh imagery will look significantly better and improvements to AR content should be available.

Aside from the cameras, the Xperia XZ4 is expected to feature a large 6.5-inch 21:9 display coupled with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The device should also include Android 9 Pie straight out of the box and IP68 water & dust resistance.

If Sony’s history is anything to go by, the Sony Xperia XZ4 probably won’t be available to purchase until late March or early April at the very earliest. If the company wants to compete against the Galaxy S10 series, though, perhaps the launch will be brought forward.

The XZ2 Premium already have one of the best, if not the best cameras on the market, but people want to ignore this fact simply because it's not an Apple, Samsung, Google, or Huawei phone.

the phone is literally not available anywhere but few countries. I can't blame anyone for not knowing about it because they literally haven't seen the phone.

The same can be said about OP and Xiaomi phones, they are not available everywhere. Plus, for tech reviewers, availability shouldn't be an issue when reviewing a smartphone.

Xiaomi is widely available in most of the Europe since the last couple of months.

OnePlus is available in the US, India, China, and so many more countries, Same thing applies for Xiaomi but it is not available in the US. One the other hand, the XZ3 isn't available in china, india, and so many other countries. In fact it is easier to list the countries the latest sony flagships are available in than to list the countries which they aren't. you cant get people to review and talk about something if they don't have access to it!

But.. does it really though? Cameras on Sony phones really tend to struggle indoors, and images coming out of them have super heavy sharpening noise/artefacts in all lighting conditions. In low light XZ2 Premium is not even on par with iPhone XS which uses a smaller main sensor and does not have a monochrome sensor for enhanced sensitivity. That's not to say it sucks, it's still good enough for most average Joe, but I wouldn't say XZ2 Premium's camera is one of the best. Lack of telephoto or wide angle lens doesn't help either.

You obviously has never seen an XZ2P camera test, it is one of the most consistent low light shooters in the market.

Might be consistent in *super* low light, but poor dynamic range really ruins the image in general low light where it needs to capture dark shadow areas and bright city lights at the same time.

Really interesting when not even the note 9 beats the xz2 premium in low light yet you are claiming the iPhone xs is on par with xz2 premium in low light! At times I wish people would actually try things for themselves and or find the neutral reviewers cause no iPhone is close to the xz2 premium at night.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfVQSothBoE He is possibly the most neutral reviewer I've ever seen on Youtube, the results speak for themselves. Phone camera is not at all like DSLR, in order to get a great photo it needs a good hardware but also equally competent software to back it up. This is especially the case where a scene gets complicated and that's where XZ2 Premium fails. Again, it's not a bad camera per se, but surely it could've done so much better.

this is what you call neutral reviewer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JUYlVweC38 if note 9 is behind XZ2 Premium than xperia is definitely better than iphone xs at night

If they wanna compete, they should have added an ultra-widescreen camera too. It's not hard to implement an algorithm for the other cameras for depth sensing while one of the 3 camera is being used.

Megapixels aren't everything. Infact they matter very little.

With the new tech of pixel binning. The more megapixels. The better picture produced the pixelbinned resolution of this phone is 13mp. Much better than Huawei p20 pro which is 10mp. So it will produce a better quality overall. And in the past Sony phones have only struggled in low light cause of the aperture. But this phone is f/1.6 it's gonna be really good in low light

Pixel binning is a different story. I thought the conversation was only about megapixels. But anyways, this won't kill all other phone cameras. Software work needs to be done right in order to make the XZ4 competitive. Just pixel binning correctly won't make sony number one. Cos others are doing it too. And 13MP isn't much better than 10MP, visually.

I really hope they don't get the camera software messed up this time. Image processing has always been holding back cameras on Sony's phones.

If only they could lower their prices a bit and spend a bit more money on marketing
