Samsung on track to sell 50 million Galaxy S6 and 6 edge units this year, says research firm
There have been plenty of predictions and estimates as to the early sales figures of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. At one point, it appeared that the company was perhaps struggling to shift its two redesigned handsets. But with the forthcoming Samsung Investors Forum about to put an official stamp on proceedings, Counterpoint Research suggests that some 6 million units of the flagship duo were sold by the end of April, which, behind Apple's iPhone, renders them the most popular in the smartphone market.

The other interesting stat revealed by the highly-respected research firm is that it expects Samsung to have sold a collective 50 million units of the handsets by the end of the year. If this does turn out to be the case, it would set a new bar for the Galaxy S smartphone line, but while Counterpoint is usually fairly accurate in its predictions, we'll have to wait to hear from Samsung before we can pass judgement.

If Samsung's early Galaxy S6 and S6 edge numbers aren't considerably better than those of the S5, though, then there's sure to be an air of disappointment, particularly from shareholders. Last year, Samsung had it tough with the introduction of the Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which, thanks to their larger displays, encroached upon market territory occupied by the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines.

Apple's extraordinary iPhone sales last year meant that Samsung really needed to make a statement with the S6 and S6 edge, and while there's no question that they're two of the best in the industry, it'll be very interesting to see if sales have thus far corroborated the largely positive reviews.

The Samsung Investors Forum 2015 will take place tomorrow, June 3rd, in Seoul.

It is something that was given to you at work, something that you didn't invest your money into. So don't act like you picked a Samsung phone because you wanted to, we ALL know what an Apple fanboy/Samsung-Android hater you are. Sadly for you, your attempts to gain a little bit of credibility is falling short.

Same goes for high level ifans, you should have said "you can't win against a blind fanboy", as all fanboys are like that, regardless of what side are they on

Poor iFans? What about them lmao? Im sure 50m in 1 year is < 75mil in one quarter lol. On top of selling over 10 million new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models, a new record, just three days after the launch

Not sure how 50 million relates to less than 75 million. Apples and oranges, or berries if you wish.

First off, Apple sold 75M iPhones in one quarter. They didn't sell 75M iPhone 6 models in one quarter. So lets fix that. Next, Apple sold 75M phones in a singl quarter...ONCE. Samsung on the other hand has been selling 80M smartphones per quarter since the release of the Galaxy S III which was 4 year ago. Apple sells less than 200M phones in a year, While Samsung has been selling 300M+ phones for 4 years on a row. In 2013 the S4 and note 3 which are only 2 phones, sold over 150M together, while Apple has 4 selling iPhone models and they only sold 149M or so. Apple has never sold 75M of one single model in a single quarter and no has anyone else. Yes Apple sold 10M phone son launch day, many people didn't receive their phones until more than 30 days later. I know because we order 10 for our office and the last 2 came nearly 2 month later because they were gold in color. So yes, Pre-order and actual shipped sales are 2 different things. Also the S6 models sold 20M on pre-order and pre-order sales were only in 20 countries. "Samsung received some 20 million preorders for the S6 and S6 Edge — 15 million of S6 and five million of the S6 Edge from mobile carriers, worldwide." -http://www.mobilenewscwp.co.uk/2015/03/12/samsung-received-20m-pre-orders-for-s6-s6-edge/ If you are going to report a number, do so factually and accurately because if you don't it makes you look like a typical foolish fanboi who purposely thinks we wont see the difference.

s6 is an overhyped phone. s5 was way better.

Actually, the S6 Edge is the overhyped one, the dual edge screen is basically useless. I feel like laughing when I see their ads on TV. S6 deserves the hype, with the new design and improved software, it shows that Samsung listened to their customers and the consumers as well. But too bad sacrifices are made for the new design, some people might be fine with the lack of micro SD card slot, but there are billions of people around the world, and how do you know what they want? So, ditching the micro SD card slot is still a mistake from them. NEXT IS NOW? LOL...not now, Samsung. I'll wait for the next one, the Note 5. :P

People are buying the S6 Edge for it looks, not for the added functionality.

11. gaming64 unregistered

The Edge is a status icon, no useless addition except useless edges.

Nobody said that it was meant for functionality.

28. Sauce5 unregistered

The S6 is as equally a beautiful phone as the Edge (subjectively speaking), and I hope Samsung beats these expected numbers, for the sake of their own behalf in learning that great design is very welcomed from the consumer.

True, but when Samsung gave the people what they want, they are now crying about the non removable battery and sd card slot. It's hard to please people nowadays

It's not useless. It has features that the s6 doesn't have and most importantly, looks great. You can argue whether it's worth an extra $100 or an extra $4 a month, but don't say it's useless.

Are you crazy?? I know its subjective but the only thing the s5 has is water proof and micro SD.. Also the bandaid
