Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to be announced on August 26 in New York?

By now, we’ve heard a lot of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, seen as the biggest competitor of the anticipated “anniversary iPhone”, but the exact timing of the model’s announcement has so far been unknown. A familiar source on Twitter, however, seems to have an idea about the launch date – the informer, going by the nickname Ice Universe, claims that the Galaxy Note 8 will be presented at a special event which is to be held in New York on August 26.

Of course, the information is far from official, but given the fact that the last two Galaxy Note models have been announced days before the IFA expo, which starts on September 1 this year, the date above seems a logical assumption. If the August 26 date happens to be correct, then the Galaxy Note 8 will be presented several weeks before the announcement of the next iPhones, which are expected in September.

Of course, it is always good to take the information from such a source with a grain of salt, but we can’t ignore the fact that Ice Universe has a rich history of speculative (and sometimes accurate) posts covering a wide range of devices, including some fairly believable leaks related to the Galaxy Note 8. There was also a picture (below) of a protective glass, presumably intended for Samsung’s new phablet, pointing at a design made in the style of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+.

According to recent rumors, the Galaxy Note 8 will have a 6.3-inch display and a Snapdragon 836 SoC. The new phablet is also expected to be the first high-end Samsung device with a dual camera module.

Note 8 Please read what I have to say about the note 8 in a fair way. I'm a huge fan of technology, and want the return of the NOTE 8 to be GREAT! Let me just further preface this by saying I really, really hope that Samsung can come out and offer something incredible that blows existing phones out of the water. To me, the Note 7 was this, with exception to two very important items. Before I get into those, the note 7 offers a stellar design, amazing screen, solid ram, big battery, microsd, and nearly every software feature that would leave dedicated nerds with wet dreams. ***********************BUT********************** One issue persists - Bad real world performance AKA Lag. Lag has affected Samsung phones since they first came on the scene with its galaxy products. It's a massive problem that must be resolved at some point soon, because there is absolutely no justification for a nearly $1000 phone exhibiting lag throughout the UI, as this for me and many other people is 100% a deal breaker. And again, we all know why this stuttering and framerate drops occur - Samsung's aggressive memory management and other software that interrupts the flow of fluid animations. I need Samsung, and Samsung fans, to realize I want them to succeed very badly. However, they simply can't if they keep ignoring some of the items that are in desperate need of addressing. It's ridiculous to me that this issue has been present on literally every Samsung Android device I have ever owned. Original Note - Lag Note 3- Lag Oh, maybe it's Fixed? Note 5 - LAG Okay, one more time because the Note 7 looked INCREDIBLE???? …..Note 7 - LAG This is simply unacceptable, and it's a shame because I actually really enjoy Samsung products. The funniest thing tho - whenever I explain these issues to Samsung lovers, they tell me my device is faulty. My devices were never faulty, it's that my perception of perceivable lag is vastly different because of the phones I'm coming from. We all know that ALL phones have lag. However, Samsung phones through my experiences and many others have the most lag of any smartphones out there. I really really hope they fix these issues.

It's absolutely insane to me that the S8 and S8 PLUS phones STILL have lag. Seriously, just type it in your computer and thousands of fans are in need of Samsung addressing it. I really can't believe that people are willing to ignore the performance of these phones. The saddest thing is that they have great specs! It's the software that makes the performance weak. So again, please don't think I'm trying to bash Samsung here. I just can't believe that Samsung hasn't fixed it. I will say they are in the right direction, as they finally decided to move away from touchwiz which was a huge difference maker. But the lag is still there too often. Samsung - Please listen to us so we can enjoy your products. Commenters - please here me out.

Samsung better hurry up lest they're eaten up by the predator. Oh well, it will still get eaten anyway.

They don't need to rush at all, we've seen those results. And so what if they release close to i8, it'll give us consumers a great choice to make. Rather than buying one Phone a month before the other is announced and finding it appeals to you more we'll see the 2 phones within 2 weeks of each other

Samsung has never rushed a product. So what results are yoi referring too. Go look at all the release dates for every Niote and explain where they rushed. Its sad that people elude facts ro post B.S.

Samsung rushing (fact) the Note 7 caused the biggest failure and most embarrassing phone release to date. It'll be hard to top a DOUBLE recall, worldwide airline and AIRPORT ban, product renaming, 6 month investigation mess. That's what he's referring to.

Though note 7 failure was a huge embarrassment for samsung. But it had nothing to do with Samsung rushing for its release. Even note 5 was released at the same time. But did not have any issues.

Samsung easily could've done extensive testing on the Note 7 batteries prior to release but getting a 1 month jump on Apples potentially big i7 made the phones get to market quicker Obviously the i7 wasn't all that amazing from it's predecessor as the Note 7 was, but had Sammy taken time to test batteries before the initial release and re-release we could all have Note 7s right now

how can you say that samsung did not test its batteries ? Testing battery in a lab is a different thing. And using it in real world is different. Mistakes happen. Manufacturers know better than blog commentators about manufacturing and testing.

Also, some people already knkw what phone they want, before the release. I dont care what any compnay has, no phone in histiry is so far better or equal to the Note.

just wait til apple puts an ipencil on a future iphone...then all of a sudden the spen is no longer a gimmick LOL iphonies will drool over an iphone with an ipencil and then say that apple did it better on the iphone than samsung did on their note

Not everyone is set on the phone they want to get before release. You seem dead set on the Note, but I've met plenty of Note users that made the jump to iPhone or even other Android devices. Majority of them did so because they enjoyed the larger screen but didn't use the S-Pen. now with all OEM producing 5.5"+ devices those who simply want a large screen have more options to choose from. I'm not saying the Note won't be an incredible device, because I'm anticipating one. But in today's market there are plenty of people who could opt for a Galaxy or iPhone. So if the phones are revealed closer together then the consumers can make a better decision then choosing 1 simply because it came first

They will, as they have the last 3 years running, release the best phone on the market. No rush needed. Lamborghini doesn't rush due to worry about Ford outselling them.

I see someone is still stinging from the announcement that the S8 was named best smartphone available by most reviewers. The pain isn't going to ease any for you once the Note 8 comes out and takes it's place at the head of the table.

Here comes 2017's best, bar none. Based on how outstanding the s8 Plus is, I know the Note 8 will rule. This is the one, I'm waiting and excited for. Can't wait to try those new S-Pen features. Bring it on.

The S8/S8+ is a laggy mess. The phone literally is a horribly performing phone considering the pricetag. The Pixel, Nexus 6P, Mate 9, iPhone 7, G6, and others ALL outperform the S8 while costing less. -Dropped frame rate should not be present in an "outstanding" phone -Stutter should not be present in an "outstanding" phone -Lost frames during games should not be present in an "outstanding" phone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTx5MB5wXjUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eejNi-2DFAhttps://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/lag-stutter-t3603642https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/lag-micro-stuttering-stock-launcher-t3596498 I'm not even trying to joke around here, but the S8 performance is crappy as hell and every consumer should avoid this phone. Look, the exynos version can't even play san andreas. PATHETIC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0grwKgLRnCE
