Samsung Galaxy Note 8 might be codenamed “Baikal”

Now that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 saga is behind us, except for a few lawsuits, we can start looking into the future. And D.J. Koh confirmed the Note 8 is coming in the very near future.

According to new rumors from China, the codename of the future phablet might be “Baikal”. For those not familiar with the name, Baikal is a Siberian lake, which is also the deepest lake in the world. If Samsung indeed named the new phablet after the Russian lake, we can't help but to wonder why.

The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to come with a 4K display for better VR experience, and Samsung's new AI assistant – Bixby. It's also rumored that LG might be supplying the batteries for the upcoming phablet.

Of course, with a release date in the second half of the year, there is plenty of time for Samsung to change plans, so all rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.

You'd better bring it good, Samsung. I'm not happy with this S7 Edge. The fingerprint sensor had better not be in the stupid spot the leaks for the S8 show.

Agree with 2 out of 3 rings that you said.

Are you going to go for the S8+ to tide you over until the Note 8 comes out?

The battery is pretty attrocious (though much better since I flashed the unlocked firmware and got rid of all Verizon's bloat). It's also significantly more laggy, though again the U firmware helped a lot.

I am glad I am not the only one. The S7 edge stinks. I had a Note 5 and lost it. I don't want to waste my upgrade right now if the Note 8 is coming out soon.

Apple named macs with mountains so Samsung will compulsary and name their new device based on nature so they go with lakes. I wont be surprised a Loch Ness phone coming from Samsung.

"Apple named macs with mountains so Samsung will compulsary and name their new device..." Step your Auto Correct game up before trying to make an insult. Our if typed in an iPhone, step on Auto Correct game of thrones before trying to make an omelette.

I wish they'd re-release the note 7 in limited quantity, half a year is a long time to wait for the note 8.

"Now that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 saga is behind us,..." Is it? Minus the need mention it in regards to the battery investigation results you all still brought it up an awful lot this year.

Exactly. They bring up the Note7 issues an awful lot lately by mentioning them at any possible moment, so clearly the saga is not behind them.

it could be 3 years from now, they'd still find a way to mention the Note 7 in an unrelated article, like the top new apps of the week
