Mobile gamers, rejoice - the Asus ROG Phone 2 launch is right around the corner
After making some serious waves with a "mainstream" flagship priced exceptionally low for its top-notch specifications and unique approach to solving the full screen conundrum, Asus is gearing up to unveil the second edition of its niche-oriented gaming ROG Phone.

The company started the official teasing games about a month ago with confirmation of a vague release window and high-profile "optimization" partnership for the Asus ROG Phone 2, further hyping up the mobile powerhouse just a week later by revealing a crucial display technology upgrade that will allow the handset to better compete against the Razer Phone lineup.

While most of the key specs and features remain under wraps, we now know precisely when the second-gen ROG Phone is scheduled to see daylight, at least in China. Hardcore mobile gamers will want to save the July 23 date, as that's when the design, specifications, and (regional) availability info are set to be disclosed in full.

Unfortunately, although we have every reason to expect the Asus ROG Phone 2 in US stores at some point, following in the footsteps of its Snapdragon 845 predecessor, we highly doubt the company will tackle that specific topic in any way at the Chinese launch event on July 23. If history is any indication, we may need to wait a few more months before the gaming-centric handset makes its way to the Western Hemisphere... with an exorbitant price tag attached to its name.

The 2018-released ROG Phone, mind you, still fetches $900 and up in an unlocked variant packing at least 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage space. Hopefully, the sequel will offer more local digital hoarding room in its entry-level configuration, alongside guaranteed upgrades like a Snapdragon 855 SoC and a silky smooth screen with a blazing fast 120Hz refresh rate.
