Lumia Denim update coming soon according to message from Microsoft Lumia
Last week, we told you that the Lumia Denim update would soon be pushed out for the Nokia Lumia 830 and Nokia Lumia 930. Today, a tweet from the Microsoft Lumia Twitter account stated that the update will "roll out soon following testing and operator approvals." Considering that some operator testing takes longer than others, it still could be awhile before the update makes it to some U.S. Windows Phone owners.

The update combines some of the goodies from Windows Phone 8.1 update 1, and the Lumia Denim firmware update. Some of the new features include changes to the Glance screen so that Bing Weather can be viewed. You will also be able to have some of the Bing Health and Fitness data appear as well. The update also turns on Cortana (NOT the way you might have been thinking) when you say "Hey Cortana". Other changes include a quicker time between shots with the Lumia Camera app, and certain models will offer improved imaging with the rear-facing camera.

The update is expected to take two months to complete. If it does start rolling out this month, it might be the end of January before the Lumia Denim update has been sent out to all Windows Phone handsets that support it. Most of you will find it well worth waiting for.

I think it will be Emerald, that name leaked few weeks back. Not sure if it will be final. Even denim was previously named Debian Red!

Oh, the hey Cortana feature. Apparently my m8 is supposed to get that as well. So I see an update for my phone coming as well. Sucks for lower end and mid-range users because that feature is only coming to phones with a snapdragon 800 or higher.

For real? That sucks. Even the Lumia 830 won't get it?

Yup. That`s one of the reasons I didn`t care for it, because it was too expensive with the specs it had. Got the M8 with WP, couldn`t be happier.

tbh i think widowsphone is the best when it comes to treating their low end devices the updates they get are almost on par with all the high end devices so it shouldn't come as a surprise that they miss out on features from time to time if they pay less so although it "does suck" they could be in a worse situation

Not happy. This means nothing to us WP users on Verizon.

That is mainly the reason I left VZW... Tmobile is inconsistent, but still not too bad (loving my recently returned and reinstated Lumia 925 :D) There is also an unlocked Lumia 1520 (RM-938) in our office... happily running T-Mobile's blazingly fast LTE network :) AT&T has some dead spots in our city.

This update changes so little that it is amazing that it needs a OTA base upgrade to begin with. It does what you read, plus alphabatizes the settings menu and changes the brower id string. That's it. They should just issue that update via the store.

Plus they added bluetooth PAN tethering. That requires firmware updating.

folders, security and the camera features are pretty big updates.

update the camera app, update the explorer app, what security updates?

update the camera app, yay. Yet the stuff it relies on is not an app, it is a firmware hardware layer. oops Just like how android needed an update to turn on VoLTE on supported devices. It wasnt as simple as 'update' the phone app.

We are supposed to be able to have Cortana on speed dial I believe. So we can "call her" from the steering wheel phone controls.

I am an unhappy Owner of a Verizon Windows 8 smart phone because we did not get the update to Windows Phone 8.1 and the 2 updates that windows phone 8.1 already got and now a third update to windows phone 8.1. WOW Verizon what the hell is wrong with you guys. I hear the verizon Moto G got an android update. Verizon your boss stood with MS CEO Ballmer onstage and said you were glad to sell windows smart phones NOW you treat your Windows smart phones customers like dirt what's up with that
