Leak suggests iPhone 7 will get a Mac Pro-like 'gloss black' variant

With Apple's special event now confirmed to be taking place next week, there's sure to be a surge in rumor and speculation. From what we can gather, there will be a new iPhone 7 alongside an iPhone 7 Plus in Gold, Rose Gold and Silver as we're accustomed to, while the Space Gray could be replaced by a darker, Space Black configuration. According to a speculative new report, seemingly backed up by a SIM tray leak, a fifth, 'glossy' black version could also retail.

It should be noted that the source of this leak — Japanese blog Mac Otakara — has a fairly decent track record when it comes to predicting new Apple products. Where the Space Black model is set to be a slightly tinted take on Space Gray, this purported glossy black model will supposedly be remnant of the 2013 Mac Pro, as seen in the image to the right.

Such a move would certainly prompt a change in direction from Apple. Cupertino's prized asset hasn't sported a shiny dark exterior since the days of the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. Even though Mac Otakara does have evidence courtesy of the alleged SIM trays as seen above, we're still taking this one with a pinch of salt — at least until more evidence trickles through.

Still, if there is anything to this report, would you be interested in an iPhone with a finish akin to Apple's Mac Pro? Let us know in the comments.

We haven't had a glossy back iPhone since, what, 3G? How are they to do it with antenna bands? Maybe they'll use glossy plastic for the bands and glossy metal for the rest of the chassis, eradicating the antenna bands all together. Could look good.

The 4 and 4S have a glass back, do they not? The 3G and 3GS have the plastic gloss.

5 different colors? 3 different storage sizes and two models is too much

Samsung S7 and S7 edge: Black, Gold, Silver, White, Pink Gold And I'm pretty sure the three models of the S6 line have 4 colours.

I wonder if this will be an option for the iPhone7 SE and it will be like the older iPhone4 (Nexus4 if you will) and it will be glossy black with glass around it? A guy can dream, right?

Apple will make Space Gloss Black for the 7 Plus only.

I'm more interested in that dark flat black color in the middle. What Apple should do is offer black screen with every color option - those top and bottom bezels are super ugly in white.
