The wide foldable war has already started. Now, the biggest battle of all is that between the iPhone Duo and Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8. The latter has been an immense success, according to early sales data, while the former gathered a lot of attention after the "Surprise and Shine" event on September 9.
Which of these two wide foldables will win the battle for the customer's heart? It's hard to tell. But looking at our latest poll, it's advantage Samsung—at least at the moment.

In my latest article about the funny little Samsung video ad, I asked you which foldable you like best. For the sake of keeping things "wide," I included the latest wide foldables, but I also left one answer for traditional book-style fold aficionados.
The results from that particular poll are quite interesting. It turns out the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a success not just when it comes to sales, but also in popularity.
Samsung's first wide foldable beat the iPhone Duo by a wide margin, collecting over 40% of all votes. The iPhone Duo only managed 29%, which is pretty strange given all the hype around Apple's first foldable.

Only around 9% of all voters said they like traditional, book-style foldables. This result is also indicative of current market trends. People seem to have fallen out of love with tall and narrow foldables, preferring the new passport-style format.

Around 15% voted that they don't like foldables at all and prefer a conventional candy bar phone. This percentage was much higher in previous polls of a similar kind, so the adoption of foldables is happening—albeit slower than expected.
No love for Chinese wide foldables

The two contenders from the Far East—the Pura X Max and the recently announced Xiaomi 18 Fold—scored 1.68% and 5.28%, respectively. Both devices launched before the iPhone Duo, and the Pura X also beat Samsung to market by launching on April 20.
Unsurprisingly, these devices are not officially available in the US, hence the low scores. The wide foldable future is nigh. I guess we'll be seeing more models with this wide form factor over the next couple of years.
