Huawei P30 could get two new color options next week
The Huawei P30, one of the Chinese manufacturer's current high-end handsets, has something that even the most premium of the company's 2019 phones won't have: the Google Play services version of Android including Google's core apps. As we told you yesterday, it appears that the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 series will not be able to obtain a license from Google to use its variant of the open-source Android operating system. That's because Huawei has been banned from accessing its U.S. based supply chain after it was placed on the Commerce Department's Entity List on May 16th for security purposes. Huawei isn't planning on using its recently announced HarmonyOS for the Mate 30 line and could use an open-source version of Android similar to what Amazon uses for its Fire tablets.

Even though the Huawei P30 launched in April, there is some news about the handset. According to LetsGo Digital, the manufacturer filed an application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for two new Huawei P30 design patents; each patent covers a new color for the phone which is currently available in Black, Aurora and Breathing Crystal.

These new colors for the Huawei P30 could be unveiled as soon as next week

The first new color in the design patent appears to be a different take on the Breathing Crystals color option, with the same multi-color look on the bottom of the phone's rear glass panel. Breathing Crystals is actually a mix of different colors allowing the device to look different depending on the lighting; at times it will look blue and at other times it might appear white. The difference with the color option seen in the patent application is that the top part of the rear panel is one color-Aqua. This part of the phone doesn't change colors like the rest of it does. The line that divides the Aqua portion of the back from the rest of the Breathing Crystals-like design is found just under the camera.

If the second new design patent application for the Huawei P30 looks familiar, that's because the black and gray colors should remind you of the "Panda" version of 2017's Google Pixel 2 XL. The latter was black on top right up to the top of the fingerprint scanner, and the remainder of the panel was white. Both this patent the and aforementioned design patent were filed on May 28th. The new versions of the P30 sporting these color options could be unveiled next week in Berlin at IFA 2019. It isn't clear whether the P30 Pro will also be available with these new colors.

The Huawei P30 is equipped with a notched 6.1-inch AMOLED display carrying a resolution of 1080 x 2340 (FHD+). This works out to an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The homegrown Kirin 980 chipset is under the hood along with 6GB of memory and 128GB of storage. There is a triple camera setup on the back (40MP primary + 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom + 16MP ultra-wide-angle). The front of the phone sports a 32MP selfie snapper and a 3650mAh capacity battery keeps the lights on. The phone has an in-screen fingerprint scanner, and with an IP53 rating, it is resistant to light rain and splashes.

There is a precedent for Huawei to offer new colors mid-generation for the "P" series during IFA. The company did something similar with 2018's P20 series, offering four new colors in August just before last year's IFA expo took place. This year, IFA will kick off on September 6th and run through September 11th. On September 19th, we could see Huawei unveil the Mate 30 series, expected to be the manufacturer's top achievement for the year phone-wise.
