Flipboard update brings Instagram integration, ignores Vine
An update to newsreader app Flipboard has brought integration with Instagram's new video taking feature. The 15 second videos from the picture-sharing social network can be viewed within the Flipboard app regardless if you're using the iOS or Android version of the software. The video feature was added to Instagram earlier this month and 5 million videos were uploaded within the first 24 hours. Don't look for the Instagram video support on the Flipboard update changelist, because it is not there.
Instagram had launched its video clip service in response to Vine. The latter is a Twitter owned app that allows users to take 6 second videos, tag them, and send them on. Consider it a video version of Twitter with 6 seconds of video equaling 140 characters. Vine had launched originally on iOS before recently being made available to Android users. For some reason, while Flipboard now supports Instagram video, it has not yet done so for Vine. Since it does support Vine parent Twitter, it is a bit surprising not to see the 6 second clips on Flipboard.
Meanwhile, after that hot start for Instagram video, it seems that the use of the feature is cooling off.
