AT&T is shipping the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active ahead of schedule
Instead of releasing the rugged Samsung Galaxy S4 Activeon June 21st as scheduled, AT&T on Wednesday started shipping out both the Urban Gray and the Dive Blue versions of the phone. The water and dust resistant version of the Android flagship device can be seen in a series of pictures that show off things like the rubber plug that covers the USB port, protecting it from water. The handset is IP67 certified which means it can stay in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes and survive. And the screen is made from scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass.
Right on AT&T's website, where you can go to order the device, is a box telling customers that the phone has already started shipping on June 19th. With a signed two year contract, the price of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is $199.99. Off contract, the device will cost you $594.99.
In an era where carriers and manufacturers are usually criticized for delays, it is refreshing to see AT&T pushing out this model earlier than originally planned.
