There's a new wide-screen phone on the horizon, and it packs two 200 MP cameras on its back! After Huawei revealed the Pura X View, now Oppo is working on a passport-like slab phone with a powerful camera system.
The Oppo Reno X wide-screen phone is coming

The first leak comes from tipster Gadgetsdata, who posted on X the expected name of the wide slab phone and some impressive specs.
For starters, the camera system features two 200 MP sensors, one for the main camera, and one for the periscope telephoto. The third snapper is also a pretty capable 50 MP ultrawide camera.
The extra-wide phone probably made possible for these big sensors to be fitted inside the Reno X. It's a flagship camera system, even though the Reno series has been dishing out midrange models primarily.

The flagship specs extend to the display of the Reno X. According to Digital Chat Station, the phone will come equipped with a 16:9 LTPO screen. The previous leak also detailed the exact dimensions of the display and the refresh rate. We're talking about a 6.35-inch, 120Hz flat panel.
Digital Chat Station also mentions ultra-narrow bezels (1mm) around the screen and a symmetrical design.
The screen footprint is very similar to the aforementioned Huawei Pura X View, and I expect similar dimensions for the Reno X.

Unlike the Pira X View, though, the Reno is expected to pack a much more powerful camera system, and also a nicer chipset.

Dimensity 9000 Series SoC and a metal frame
Another piece of the puzzle is the chipset. According to the leaks, the upcoming Reno X will feature a Dimensity 9000 series SoC. It could be a midrange or a flagship chip, but either way, it will be more powerful and more efficient than the 5nm Kirin 9030S inside the Pura X View.
The leaks also mention a metal frame around the body, and it might be a flagship model. Digital Chat Station says it won't be cheap, so we might see an Oppo Reno flagship.
The era of wide-screen, phablet-like phones

We might be seeing a shift in smartphone design, or should I say a blast from the past? Even though this trend started with the wide folds, such as the Huawei Pura X, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the iPhone Duo, more and more phone manufacturers are starting to explore this new wide design in non-folding phones as well.
The actual practicability of such a design is still questionable, but it's good to see something fresh once in a while. Speaking of which, the Oppo Reno X will most likely remain a China-only model, but if sales happen to be as good as the Huawei Pura X View, the new form factor might stick, and we might see more wide-screen slab phones.
iPhone 20 Wide?
Could we see a wider version of the iPhone? Why not! | Image by Apple (stretched
Are we going to see a wide non-folding iPhone anytime soon? That's a possibility, but I don't think Apple will be as aggressive as its Chinese competitors in adopting this new form factor.
The iPhone 18 is scheduled to drop next year, along with the new 18e, and the second-generation iPhone Air. Apple has big plans for the iPhone 20 series, as it will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the iPhone (hence the jump in the numbering scheme).
Would you like to see a wide-screen non-folding iPhone or Galaxy phone? Do you guys remember the old phablet phones from the 2010s? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
