If you own the Galaxy Z Fold 8, you might have noticed that on the YouTube app, thumbnail images that show a preview of a video before you watch it are looking off. On Reddit last week, a Galaxy Z Fold 8 user wrote about the problems he was having with the streaming video app.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 users are having various issues with the thumbnails on the YouTube app
"I'm talking oversized thumbnails, undersized thumbnails, thumbnails off screen, video pausing while audio continues, thumbnails resizing while scrolling. Issues are on inner and outer displays and happen many times a day," wrote the Redditor, while also telling us that this didn't happen on his Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The usual homemade fixes didn't help at all
This was happening to others, including one Reddit subscriber who tried the usual homemade fixes like clearing cache and data, uninstalling and reinstalling the app. These typical solutions had the typical results-they did nothing to fix the issue.
On the Samsung Community Forum, a complaint was posted about the issue, and images were included showing the misalignment problem. If I haven't done the issue justice and you're not exactly understanding what the complaint is about, let me "borrow" the words used by those doing the actual complaining.
One Redditor believes that he has a fix for the bug and you can try it yourself
They talk about the size of the thumbnail constantly changing its size ("resizing," said more than a couple of Redditors). One called it a "UI mess." As usual, one Redditor said that he found a solution and all he had to do was exit the YouTube beta program and the issue was fixed.
If you are on the YouTube Beta program, you can exit it by opening the Google Play Store app and searching for YouTube. From the YouTube Play Store listing, scroll until you find the section card that says, "You're a beta tester."

In that card, there will be an option to Leave. Tap on it and confirm that this is what you want to do when prompted to do so.
Remember, we don't know whether the problem with the thumbnail is due to the YouTube Beta, and if you are a member, you might not find it so easy to rejoin once you leave. YouTube is one of the hardest Google apps to join as a Beta tester.
With YouTube and other popular Google apps, there is a limit placed on the number of YouTube Beta testers allowed. New testers are only allowed to join if someone else decides to quit.

Having said all that, it is up to you to decide whether you feel like giving up your position as a YouTube Beta tester with the hope that doing so will stop the shape-shifting thumbnails on your Galaxy Z Fold 8. If you do decide to leave the YouTube Beta program, uninstall the app and reinstall it, and supposedly the funny-looking thumbnails will be a thing of the past.
This bug might also appear on other devices including tablets
Actually, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 appears to be the device most associated with this bug, one Reddit subscriber has seen this issue on his tablet, the brand and model of which he did not mention.
The closest to a response from Samsung that we've seen was a comment in the Samsung Community Forum from a moderator who requested additional information from the Galaxy Z Fold 8 user who posted the images of the strange-looking thumbnails. If we hear anything new, we will be sure to update this article.
