Samsung Messager II

Phone owned for

Well let me see this is the 1st Cricket phone I ever got I got just when it came out and I got to say im impressed well let me see the text messages are super easy to send and make taking pictures is good it show up clear better than any cricket phone the video option is good but doesnt take video in perfect quality and the internet is cool but you cant watch streaming videos or go to other websiter other than the ones they provide you with the widget they did fail in putting youtube whats the point to put youtube if you can't watch videos right. Well Myspace and facebook is easy to use on the phone and the drawback is the small screen, the music player is alright when you want to hear music the speaker does a good job on making the song be heard and good thing that any headphones can go on it well I give this phone a 8 out of 10

Not the best, but definitely better than your average phone

Phone owned for

Well, I have owned this phone for 5 months already and I am very pleased. I bought it after my previous phone broke(it was the very sturdy ZTE C78... to be honest, I was aware of how strong it was that I ended up letting it fall, or even throwing it at people way too many times, because the phone was intact, by my microphone stopped working).  Since I am on the metroPCS network and my options are very limited I did my research as of which was the best option among their phones and also looked at other phones that was interested in and considered if it was worth flashing them into metro. At the end I decided to go for this phone, and paid what they were offering it for, which is twice what they are offering it for right (so it's even a better deal now, unluckily, with a broken phone I didn't have time to wait). This phone felt way bigger and heavier that ZTE. I personally prefer smaller, lighter phones, but it is not so bad, and I guess that for the way I use it, the battery is ok, I really don't think the batter life is as poor as they put in the specs of this website. Unlike the ZTE, it is not as sturdy. You might want to get a case for it. In the first I had one of my girlfriend hugged me and lifted me when she saw me, my phone fell on the ground, a dirt ground, and it scratched some edges. And even with the case you still have to be careful, because I drop my phone the back of the case now flies off and a couple of times the back lid and battery ended flying out. This definitely makes me feel bad for how I take care of the phone because I love the texture of the back of the phone. Design... I wished they would have offered more colors, but the dark grey is a great alternative. I really like the option of a querty keyboard although I wished they were like that of the first Samsung Messager, because it is so flat that is hard to tell its sensibility sometimes and a key my show up twice, or you might accidentally press on the key next to it. You just have to look at the keyboard when you're typing, because there is no tactile indication, as in a laptop or the first Samsung Messager that you can feel the separation between the keys, but not with this one phone. I have small hands, and small fingers, so I could have, and would have preferred to work it with the previous keyboard. Now, the numeric keypad itself is not so convenient when you want to text. Let's say you're walking with your books in one hand, and you're trying to text with the other, the keyboard feels a little slow, like it takes it a few fractions more of a second to show up what you're typing than it does with the qwerty keyboard, and if you are one of those that actually wait until it indicates you that you can type the next letter (like my mom), then you would be typing for ever. The scroll wheel also doesn't seem to be so sensitive. You have have to turn it 120 degrees (about a third of your wheel) before it actually scrolls, so imagine how much you have to turn it if you're web browsing!!! However... you can also simply press on the wheel, so if you have fast typing fingers you'll press the wheel more than you'll be turning it. But hey! it's still fun to have the whell. Although I'm not crazy about the yellow frames and highlightings when I'm using the phone, I definitely like the black backgrounds, 1. simply because I love using dark colors, 2. because lighter brighter colors drain your battery just a little bit faster (reason why I often keep my phones in almost the lowest brightness possible, even if it can get hard to read when the sun is shining strong), and let's say it, the screen display looks really nice. I like the sound quality of the speakers, they are good for playing your music, and good enough if you're on a call. The microSD slot if definitely convenient for the music. I put about 150 of the songs that I love the most in a microSD and now I play them when I'm driving and the hosts are either talking too much or the music starts getting old and repetitive. You get to shuffle it or repeat or do some good basic stuff. Beware that it'll drain your battery! That's why I usually take my charger with me (I usually charge it at school anyways). I have never had a battery full and started playing it until it drained my battery, but you change your volume from o to 14, and obviously, the lower the volume the longer your battery will last. I never owned the Messager I, but I have seen it and used it a few times, and I think the quality of the image seems better, or maybe the screen displays the images better. At least it is not a VGA, which I hated. I took a picture of my laptop's wallpaper and turned it into my phone's wallpaper, and the image looks beautiful! (I personally hate picture of people and animals as wallpapers). It is also an upgrade in that it can now record video. And you can either chose in your settings if you want it to record something short enough so that you can send the video in a message, or you can just let it run for as long as you want it to. Also, I know MetroPCS is definitely not the best network out there but it's decent enough and perfect for my needs. Plus, it's expanding. I used to say that if you travel a lot it is definitely not the network for you. Now I say, if you usually visit major cities you should have no problems. Three years ago I went to Florida and the basic plan I had did not allow me to make calls, but I could at least receive calls, and when I went to Washington DC I didn't even have reception. I think this has changed already. At least when I went back to Florida last year, and with a better plan, it was working like a champ! Metro has recently changed their plans a little, and those ten dollars less from what I used to pay for me and my mom is definitely good. Plus, I get could coverage where I live when my boyfriend on Tmobile barely gets a bar in some parts of the house. And there are a few apps that you can download for free. I like pocket express because it is pretty fast, and I get a good summary of the news, and the weather for the following days, without having to get on internet, which can sometimes take time (this depends a lot on the size of the site you're visiting, the strength of your signal, and if you're on the move). You can also download the Metro Navigator for free, which is a GPS, I use it when I happen to need it and didn't bring my actual GPS. Now, the only few things that slightly annoy me, but it's nothing to go crazy about: - Since I've had it has probably frozen... 4 times. That's nothing to bad. Just take your battery out and put it back in... ta dahh! - This is harder to explain... imagine a word, now, cut it from left to right right in the middle or in a diagonal. Next, let's say your word should be somewhere but one of the pieces of your word shows there, and the other half is somewhere else in your screen. This is a very random thing, and it seldom happens, but it doesn't seem to be specific to one function or location in your phone. It can happen while you're typing a text, or when you're sending it and it might say "S ing message" instead of "Sending message," or it also just happened today while I was scrolling through my list of songs. Nothing big enough to throw you off, but if it happens while texting (which only happened to me twice) then I just delete the few letter of the word I was typing, and start typing it again and it'll be just fine, like nothing happened. Obviously, there is no perfect phone, but even with all those little things it's still a very nice phone, and it fits my lifestyle perfectly, I don't need no iphone or droid, my Samsung Messager II is all I want, at least for the next year and a half.

Great phone, good price.

Phone owned for

I just bought this phone recently, and already it's an enormous step up from any other phone I've seen.

It's not bulky at all, which is an amazing step up from even a razr, which although isn't bulky is very wide. I've noticed that it also seems quite a bit more durable than any other phone I've had, considering within the first five minutes I owned it I dropped it down a flight of cement stairs, and it looks completely fine.

They keyboard takes some getting used to, but once I got used to it it works incredibly well, especially opposed to some other phones' keyboards which have the letters very close together. Like every phone, this phone's keypad/keyboard has it's own little tricks that one has to find out with time, and once I figured these out, the phone became incredibly easy to text/call on.

I can't say much for the internet on the phone, other than it does seem very quick, but that could be just from Cricket's network, which is usually sub par where I live. But, even with Cricket's less than spectacular coverage, I still always have at least 2 bars with this phone because it doesn't become hot (which would ruin my old phone's reception).

The camera is an amazing step up from the VGA camera I had on my other phone, or the 1.3 megapixel camera I had on my phone before that. I haven't done much with the camcorder other than make sure it works, and believe me it does. I don't really know why many people would use a camcorder, so I can't comment on it. It does definitely work though!

Speakerphone has quality reception, even at it's loudest setting it's still completely understandable. Regular phone calls are also very good reception.

My favorite feature on it is the small wheel where most phones would have arrow keys. Turning a wheel with your thumb is a lot easier than attempting to jab your fingers at the small arrow keys on other phones. Of course,  I always pick out the strange thing in a phone to like best.

Other than that, I hope it lasts at least as long as my other phone did, which was two years. If not, I have a new brick to throw at a Cricket store window, don't I?

Amazing budget phone.

Phone owned for

I've had this phone for a month now and i absolutely love it. Huge upgrade from the messager I (which i owned). Has a great 2.0 megapixel cam (Versus 1.3 on the original), plus a camcorder. Picture quality is great. Camcorder quality is decent, but still records better than most budget phones. Pic cam has nice features, such as mosaic shots (to customize pics) and 3 multi-shot options (to take multiple pics at once) Qwerty keyboard makes txting and browsing the internet a breeze! keys are alot spaced out better than the original messager. speakerphone sounds great, unlike other budge phones.Music player plays songs loud and clear. Can make songs ringtones. With a microsd card, you can play movies that have been formatted for 3g & 3gp2. Only drawbacks are not being able to stream videos online, due to metropcs' work in progress internet, and limited phone customization (Can only change wallpaper, ringtones and adjust sound levels). But overall, i definitely recommend this phone to anyone who's looking for a good phone under $200.

Nice looking, that's about it.

Phone owned for

I have done a large numbers of reviews in the past of MetroPCS's phone line up.  I was with them for about 3 years and left them just before they released their only blackberry to market.  Since then I've been just getting a new phone from them here and there.  I have to say, as someone who has used the original messager, this phone isn't worthy of the name. Now, in all fairness this is a newer model.  It's shiny, has a somewhat rubber feeling back, it's got a video camera, and it's got a nice screen.  Great.  What more could you want, especially for a sub-$200 phone, right?  Well, lets start off with SIGNAL!Yes, this phone looks good, feels good in the hand, the QWERTY keyboard is nice (but takes getting used to) but if you can't make a call, there is no hope of it staying in my pocket.  I live in an AWS zone and so I would think this would be a great phone for surfing the net, downloading pictures or MMS , but no.  This phone (or more accurately MetroPCS's network) sucks here.  I miss the old days when they were using CDMA EV-DO rev 0 as the network, before the AWS switch.  It was faster and had much better signal quality.  This phone would ring twice than go to voice mail.  Sucks.  It would RESTART after I received or sent a single text or MMS.  Sucks, and most of all I think the battery life is the absolute pits.  Overall I would hold off on getting this phone and wait for something more substantial to come out, like the Samsung Code.  At least it should be able to do what we all want, which is Youtube Mobile... without having to hack. And a side note:  When the hell did Metro start charging more for a phone upgrade?  This one as $199 with a "instant" rebate of $50, bringing the price to $149.99, but if I had to upgrade, it would have cost me $229?  I call BS on that!  F U Metro, I'll stick with one of the big 4 if that's how it's going to be.
