They say that good things come to those who wait. We're not exactly sure if that statement is valid in the realm of smartphones, but we do know that Android 6.0 is coming to a number of Sony Xperia smartphones and tablets. We can't say when it is going to land, but it sure is on its way, as Sony reassures us.

A day after Google made the Marshmallow update available for a number of Nexus devices, including the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6, Sony posted a list of Xperia devices eligible for an update to Google's latest treat. Sony will make Android 6.0 available for the following smartphones:

  • Sony Xperia Z5
  • Sony Xperia Z5 Compact
  • Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
  • Sony Xperia Z3+ (And Xperia Z4, we assume)
  • Sony Xperia Z3
  • Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
  • Sony Xperia Z2
  • Sony Xperia M5
  • Sony Xperia C5 Ultra
  • Sony Xperia M4 Aqua
  • Sony Xperia C4

And these are the Sony tablets bound to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow at some point in the future:

  • Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
  • Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet
  • Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet

Of course, there's fine print to the whole story. First of all, there's no word as to when Android 6.0 will land on each and every Sony Xperia smartphone eligible for an update. Although it seems safe to assume that the latest high-end Xperia models will be the first to be updated, followed by Sony's lower-tier handsets. Furthermore, timing and availability will vary from one market to another. The carrier your Xperia is on may have an impact as well.

The 6.0 Marshmallow update brings a number of new features to the Android experience, including improvements to battery life, enhanced search thanks to Google on Tap, better control over app permissions, and support for the Android Pay system for mobile payments. Excited about them landing on your Xperia smartphone? Let us know in the comments!
