Rugged Galaxy S6 Active to come with a 5.5" Quad HD display

Rugged Galaxy S6 Active to come with a 5.5
Oh mama, the rugged Galaxy S6 Active might be coming our way with a 5.5" display, instead of the 5.1" panel on the regular S6 flagship. After its eventual model number for AT&T appeared yesterday as SM-G890A, we pegged it as a logical successor to the SM-G870A, or AT&T's the Galaxy S5 Active version. Thus, this might be an AT&T Galaxy S6 Active, which is pretty much in line with what we expect from Samsung.

The User Agent Profile listed a 1440 x 2560 pixels Quad HD display for the SM-G890A, but nothing else was disclosed in terms of specs. Today, however, this model number was discovered on the import-export database Zauba with the enigmatic "test&eval not for sale" description, indicating a prototype version for testing purposes.

This time, however, we have a winner in terms of screen size, listed as 5.5 inches. Apparently the S6 Active would have a pretty generous display diagonal, for those who snigg at the 5.1" panel of the S6, and will be one of the biggest and most decked-out waterproof Android, if history is any indication.

Is there going to be a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Active too? I'd buy that in a second!

Active suggests rugged and i think that the edge screams fragile. Just my thoughts.

I guess, Samsung is still counting on 5.1" screen sized S5 to be sold as water resistant device !!

if the xperia Z ultra is still considered a phone, it's surely the largest, lol.

Will there be half a dozen or more variants of the s6 now? I thought they learned not to do this.

Having a variant with water resistance for people with certain lifestyle interests, isn't unreasonable. The sudden screen measurement bump for some reason is a bit mystifying though.

Sure, but I think water resistance should be a feature of the base model or perhaps go with a different name for the phone period. Don't you think it becomes confusing to the average user when there are 6 phones that have the word Galaxy in them? Is it brand dilution? If you insisit on having such a phone why not give it a different name? The S5 model has an "active" and "sport" variant. Will the S6 be like that? "Active" and "sport" to me sound like they should be the same thing, yet they are not.

I doubt we are going to see that many variants this year. I believe they're trying to coalesce all their product lineups into something more compact and comprehensive.

With that being said, ugly bulky design decisions would have had to be made to achieve this IP rating result. People want form over factor, as they're not too typically concerned with using their phone in the rain or dropping it in a puddle.

What's the point? just a sells pitch for a phone that sells in low volumes. Regular people have cases and insurance

Why pay hundreds for insurance and then pay a $100 deductible. Insurance is a rip off.

I only know one person needed insurance for his phone. He went through 7 iphones in 2 months in college... that kid...

Doesn't look like this will be called S6 Active. 5.5" screen is way too big for that and Active line was not known for larger displays, but its ruggedness. This has to be something else.

Maybe a new series: The Galaxy note active? Maybe this might sound weird, but think about it. The note series are known for their durability, but the note 4 doesn't hold up the note 3. I think this could be a note 5 active or note 4 active. Maybe the active line is being replaced.

If this model isn't much thicker and longer than the regular or dual edge version of Galaxy S6, this could well be allied with the Note series competing against the iPhone 6 Plus. And as of now, a Galaxy S6 with a bigger screen PLUS water resistance feature sounds real nice. Hope the SD card slot comes back due to having more thickness to the body.
