Piper Jaffray estimates 2 to 2.5 million Apple iPhone 4S units will be sold through Sunday
Piper Jaffray produced a survey of Apple iPhone 4S and found that a majority were AT&T customers. At the same time, less than half are buying the cheapest 16GB model. The results show that 8% of Apple iPhone 4S buyers are switching from an Android model, which is an increase from the 3% of Apple iPhone 4 buyers who switched from the green robot during last year's June launch. Speaking of the Apple iPhone 4, 30% of iPhone 4S buyers are upgrading from the previous version of the phone.
Despite the increase in sales during the opening weekend for the Apple iPhone 4S vs. the iPhone 4, Piper Jaffray noted that the number of people waiting in line outside the Apple store on New York's Fifth Avenue on Friday was lower than last year's figure. The brokerage house says that 460 people were on line today versus 1,300 last year.

Aww don't worry I'm sure someone will buy an android phone and you do tech support right? So then you guys can chop it up while you help him do a master reset since it's buggy and freezing up.

My current android is upgraded 5 times over and works great - thanks!
70. c.hack (Posts: 477; Member since: 09 Dec 2009)
My Droid DX was replaced 3 times because of the crappy reliability of Android Gingerbread. I'm on my 3rd phone and the last patch finally made it stable. This kind of piss poor Android reliability - beta phones made me buy a 4S.
And yes it is better than the Galaxy S2 because it won't crash every day

My current phone has been upgradable 5 times over and works excellent - thanks for playing....TACO BELL!

Network dude did your battery die? Why no response?
120. AppleFUD (unregistered)
yeah, the iphone has officially become the cheap POS "smartphone". . . it's cheaper than all the new high end Android devices. . has a free version, a $100 version, and the duplicated S version. . .
how does it feel to now be a "pinto" owner, taco50?
Just like the UK study showed, all the poor people own an iphone. . . a bunch of over drafted losers
You can keep your cheap pos Pinto. . . I'm waiting for the new Ferrari
. . .
Is that how we do the apple fanboy car analogy?
37. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
@network. The iphone always does it better than android phones. Just because some features on the ip4s are implemented first on android, it does not mean that the implementation is the same.
33. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
@network. The ip4s is selling very, very well in all countries where it's being launched. Read a little more will ya :)
72. networkdood (Posts: 4748; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
oh, I know - but people go crazy over this....more countries and carriers have the iphone so it stands to reason that more can be sold....
79. networkdood (Posts: 4748; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Wow, over 24 hours on the same battery charge...you will never get that with an iphone.
For the record, I was at work, and I had to hurry before our VP came by....or, so I had thought it was her....
+1 to RORY - I laughed, too

please tell me you did not defend android by talking about battery life

how can so many idiots buy the same phone over and over again????!!!!! Its good to see how much of a laughing stock apple and its islaves have become on a daily basis though

Hardware wise the Galaxy s 2 is better it just matters what OS u like.
18. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
correction spec wise the gs2 is better, iPhone has better real life performance
20. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
except the GPU in which the A5's powerVR chip is better. Those benchmarks from a few days ago were only testing GPU performance. Full real world performance an SGS2 runs circles around it. 400mhz higher clock, stronger CPU, double the ram. Good thing iOS doesnt actually do anything otherwise it would be one laggy mofo.
25. E.N. (Posts: 2216; Member since: 25 Jan 2009)
Its funny how a phone that doesn't do anything sets the standard for mobile devices.
Motorola Droid RAZR "faster than the iPhone 4S"
And BTW, the iPhone 4S is faster than the Galaxy SII. Sorry to burst your bubble
80. networkdood (Posts: 4748; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Remixfa, you could post facts all day, and the iphonies would never listen....the real guys who know phones, know what you mean, though.
73. networkdood (Posts: 4748; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
So, can your iphone give you 2 full days on one battery charge....my phone can.....
31. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
@slaggy. The reason why it is selling more than the sgs2, is proof enough that the ip4s is indeed better than the sgs2 :) Use a little common sense please :)
69. quakan (Posts: 990; Member since: 02 Mar 2011)
That's your opinion and quite frankly your opinion won't stop anyone from buying it. I don't know too many people who are that disappointed when using an iPhone because of the simplicity and ease of use makes it likable. Tell me if the iPhone had many form factors do you think anyone would complain at all? Just let people choose what's right for them.

I'm surprised that Sprint customers aren't jumping on the Iphone. They've been waiting so long.
10. paulyyd (Posts: 316; Member since: 08 Jan 2011)
what? sprint reported today as their best day of sales or something like that, get yo factz straight son
12. networkdood (Posts: 4748; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
on the slow CDMA network, it is not surprising. Next year's model 4GS will be a true 4G phone for all networks....hopefully.

My predictions are 4 million iPhones sold by Monday including pre order sales. I also predict 30% of android users will switch over when everything is done. It will be gradual because some aren't eligible to upgrade yet. I think with this launch android market share drops back down to 30 some % and iPhone will go above the 30% mark.
These are all just my guesses of course. I could be way off.
15. readingthissh1t (Posts: 303; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
your kidding right? especially when the droid razor, Nexus(whatever-the-hell-they-call-it)Prime, and the HTC vigor are around the corner?? do you have anything to back up your predictions? because that sounds wayy off
38. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Yea this article backs my predictions. Too bad no one cares about android phones coming out. Just another one of about 3 dozen that will come out over the holidays and be in the clearance bin in 30 days after it comes out.
58. readingthissh1t (Posts: 303; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
your a sad case but why do i care? If you want to stick to your underwhelming iPhone, it's cool with me. November 3rd, i'll be playin on my new Nexus. btww i know A LOT of people who care about these phones lol
109. andro. (Posts: 1890; Member since: 16 Sep 2011)
It good to see how many much of a laughing stock both Apple and their 'new' phones and tactics have become on a daily basis and also how islaves repeatedly make themselves look even more braindead as the days go by.
They do say say those most dependant/brainwashed by matrix are those who fight the hardest to defend it.........it seems a suitable theme to paint islaves with
39. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
@reading. Taco was speculating. He didn't make any claims. Well how about you? Do you have anything as well to back up your comment implyng that the ip4s sales figures will get trumped by those soon to be released android devices? Geez.
50. readingthissh1t (Posts: 303; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
did i say those sales would get trumped?? geez--_--`
21. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
way off its about the most accurate thing you said. Androids activate nearly a million a day. Yay, you got 2 million in a weeks worth of preorders. Wonder who just sold more? And it just said 8% of android owners switched. The nexus launches soon, cant wait to see how many iphone people that are pissed about that 3.5 inch screen and missing all those features will be jumping ship. the SGS2 has already been outselling the i4 for the last 6 months, something tells me if the Nexus is actually IN store this time, it will be outselling the i4s.
29. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
That's why android talks about activations not sales
40. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
@remix. Again, you are pitting the entire android OEM against the iphone. The bottom line is. All phones compete with each other regardless of their OS. So it is unreasonable of you to compare 1 phone against tons of android phones. And why would ip4s adopters get pissed with the ip4s' 3.5 display? It's not like there are no phones out their now with larger than 4" displays, lol. The sgs2 has NEVER outsold the ip4. Maybe in your android fanboy dream it did, lol.
74. networkdood (Posts: 4748; Member since: 31 Mar 2010)
Funny, where I work, after every iphone launch, I see more employees buying other phones....the reason is that the choices are so varied that the iphone is not the best model out there.....
110. andro. (Posts: 1890; Member since: 16 Sep 2011)
i work for mobile phone network and out of 30 staff from two shops in our area only 3 have iphones, all the rest have galaxy s2,galaxy s,htc desire s or sensation or other, those in the know who have to deal with the continual faults and problems of apple products on a daily basis avoid at all cost.
Also having seen little or no change in the phone over many years none of us would bother waste a staff upgrade on an iphone
22. Sniggly (Posts: 6197; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
So.. when I actually do my math, show my work, and come up with plausible numbers, you get all pissed off. However, it's A-ok for you to make up imaginary numbers just because you think they sound good?
32. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
I present mine as my guess you present it as fact. Also this article is about iPhone sales so I'm on topic.
Your last claim was that Apple was lying about their sales numbers which is outlandish.
Sorry Chef sniggly
36. Sniggly (Posts: 6197; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Well, what kind of article would a discussion on Apple cooking numbers be good to start on?
I didn't present the idea of Apple cooking their numbers as fact. I presented my opinion based on factual numbers which I pulled and reposted directly from Apple's website.
43. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Maybe on an article about Apple cooking numbers. Wait there are no articles about that???
75. Sniggly (Posts: 6197; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
Maybe there should be. Maybe there should be an audit. Maybe Apple isn't doing nearly as well as it claims.
Or maybe it is. I don't know, which is something I explicitly said when I posted that comment. I didn't know and was simply presenting what I thought was a very weird trend for Apple's sales.
90. gallitoking (Posts: 4571; Member since: 17 May 2011)
what I don't get is that..... how can someone that (supposedly ) hates Apple can spend time trying to prove if it numbers match..Sniggly please have a life.. every company has something to hide... non are clean..
95. Sniggly (Posts: 6197; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
I didn't spend much time though. I just went through Apple's quarterly reports, put the numbers in a list, and looked at the trends. Until the beginning of this year, Apple's sales of each model steadily declined until the launch of the new model. Now suddenly, with only Verizon's launch in the bag, Apple reports a clockwork increase in sales of 2 million per quarter?
It just looks fishy. I'm not qualified to spend a significant amount of time to confirm or dispel my suspicions. However, I can voice my suspicions, just like Taco and you are free to say whatever you want.
126. remixfa (Posts: 13882; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
sniggly. you gotta put this all in perspective. the i4 launched with 1.7 million preorders last year. this year its a hair over 2 million. Sounds great? right? iDiot iBots will take it at face value and try to brag like it matters..
heres that perspective I promised.
Last year, the i4 ONLY launched on ATT.
This year its launching on all 3 big carriers and it only increased by 300-500k.
So the i4s is WAAAAAAAY underselling the i4. It just happens to be on 2/3 more carriers.
The combination of VZW + Sprint adds what.. another possible 140-150 million customers, yet they only added another 300k in preorders.
that is a FAIL.
if the i4s were nearly as successfull as its predecessors, we would be hearing 3-6 million pre orders... not a measily 2 million.. which is a mere 17% increase in preorders when the user base is more than 200% of last year's user base.
133. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
How stupid of you. iPhone sold 1.7 million total through the first weekend it was available. This time they sold 1 mil in 24 hours. They'll be close to 5 mil by the time this weekend is over.
So the math is at least double the sales if not more. You're an idiot as usual.
27. Commentator (Posts: 1869; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
I'd think more would switch over if this was the bonafide iPhone 5. Sadly (for Apple) consumer-ignorance goes both ways and, even though the 4S is probably just as capable as the highest-end Android phones, most people won't see it that way because A) it got bad press and B) it looks the same. If they just increased the screen-size to 4-inches, way more people would be flocking to it. And remember, way more people are eligible now for it because it came out ~3 months later than usual. I'm no analyst, but (in my sick, perverted mind) that explains why more people picked this thing up at launch. If anything, this will spell doom for Blackberry.
11. paulyyd (Posts: 316; Member since: 08 Jan 2011)
its so funny watching android guys comment on this saying all this stuff about the iPhone and apple. first of all if you guys didn't care and think android is soo0o superior to apple then why do you guys comment? to remind us? LOL get real. pretty sure even with 512 of ram and a 800mhz process it still beating the sg2 and stop complaining about stealing ideas, if you really wanna talk about stealing ideas, wasn't apple the first to have pinch to zoom on their phones? even if they weren't they were sure as hell before android was. IM JUST SAYING
16. readingthissh1t (Posts: 303; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
notification bar. nuff said.
anyywayy, I agree with you about androiders starting wars on apple articles. Why? If you dont care, then dont comment
19. ledbetterp3 (Posts: 466; Member since: 31 Aug 2011)
We are aloud to comment on any article we want, and we have freedom of speech... We are just giving our opinion, if we put apple down, apple isn't you, so ignore it, if you respond, then you obviously want to start a war. IM JUST SAYING!
41. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
@led. This is one of the most common misconceptions or misuse of freedom of speech. Freedom of speech does not mean that you can freely slander anyone, or offend anyone verbally. There's also what we call "ABUSE of freedom". Just because I have human rights, it does not mean I have the right to kill anyone I want. Same goes with freedom of speech :)
Moral values are such a thing of the past. Really sad. People nowadays can't distinguish wrong from right. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
