T-Mobile continues to shut more stores and reduce its headcount
As it continues to transition to its new life as a digital carrier, T-Mobile continues to reduce the number of stores and reps.

T-Mobile's hometown state is Washington. What might have given that away is the fact that the carrier's headquarters is in the city of Bellevue, which is located in, well, Washington, of course. But being known as the state where T-Mobile is headquartered doesn't stop the carrier from closing stores and laying off employees there.
T-Mobile cuts jobs in its hometown state
According to a post on LinkedIn, T-Mobile is permanently cutting another 77 jobs in the state while it is closing six retail locations and one corporate office. The company filed a WARN notice (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act). Under state laws, T-Mobile was forced to file this notice as a company with 50 or more employees must give the state 60-days advance notice before a mass layoff or business closure.

The paperwork filed by the wireless carrier (the WARN notice) indicates that the permanent layoffs will take place between September 21 and November 18, 2026. The cuts are being made because of "changing business needs," says the company, which notes that these layoffs are taking place at headquarters, regional retail locations, and are also affecting those who work from home.

The jobs of those who received a pink slip include frontline retail mobile experts, senior corporate directors, and system architects. The corporate facility that was closed is known as the Canyon Pointe corporate office in Bothell. Of the 77 employees let go, 63 were just alerted of their fate, while 14 workers had previously been laid off by T-Mobile.

The stores that are being closed and the cities where they were located include:
- Seattle: 45th Street and Stone Way location.
- Bellingham: Bakerview Road and Interstate 5 location.
- Vancouver: Chkalov Drive and Southeast Fifth Street location.
- Tacoma: Tacoma Mobile Store.
- Yakima: Nob Hill Boulevard location.
- Kennewick: N. Columbia Center Blvd. & W. Quinault Ave. location.
T-Mobile continues its transition to a digital-first carrier
The above stores are considered traditional T-Mobile stores. The carrier has been transitioning to a digital-first carrier with most transactions going through the T-Life app. With stores no longer as important to T-Mobile's business model moving forward, we could see more retail locations close. As for the layoffs, the word is that T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom is looking to eliminate duplicative roles, which, along with the digital-first goal, can only result in more reductions to the carrier's headcount.
