Bittersweet shimmer brings color options to Nokia Lumia's glance screen
When the GDR3 update comes to Windows Phone, starting with the soon to be introduced Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet, it will allow the platform to run on quad-core processors like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 expected to be powering the phablet. It will also allow Windows Phone manufacturers to offer a 6 inch screen (like the one expected on the Nokia Lumia 1520) and allow for 1080 x 1920 FHD resolution like on the...well, you know.
Just like Nokia tossed in the Amber update for its Lumia owners, Nokia will be adding Bittersweet shimmer to the GDR3 update for owners of its Lumia line. One of the things that this update will do is allow you to change the glance screen's color in night mode from the current red to blue, green or 18 other options!
Other changes coming to Nokia Lumia models with both GDR3 and Bittersweet shimmers include custom notification sounds for email, text, voice mail and reminders, the ability to restore over Wi-Fi when you reset your phone, the inclusion of Driving Mode, which blocks many of your phone's capabilities when you're behind the wheel, and the Screen Rotation lock which allows you to freeze the images on your screen in either portrait or landscape orientation.
Some of the update already has leaked, such as the ability to exit apps by hitting the 'X' in the upper right corner on the multitasking page. With GDR3 specifically, Windows Phone is moving closer to Android in the specs race. 2014 could be the year that Windows Phone makes great strides.

Color options!? Wow! That kind of customization is revolutionary

DOES EVERYONE ON THIS SITE JUST WANT AN OS MONOPOLY? SERIOUSLY, ITS NOT GOOD FOR YOU! You should be happy that there are improvements in other OS's. It means that you, the consumer, will see more competition and advancements in your OS (ios, android) and it will mean that they will need to do work, not sit there and do nothing cause they have a monopoly...

Except android is open source and the OEM has deep access into the system files so they would never consider it a true monpoly.
It will eventually be pretty much the exact opposite of the PC market, android will be the windows of the phone world while IOS/windows phone owns a small %.

This is Lumia, revolution gets even better like never before.

I love it how sheep-droids use the word innovation and revolutionary in all their insults towards other OS's. Like android has done anything revolutionary in the last few years. It looks and feels the same for the last two years, 4.1 to 4.4 is pretty much the same with some minor graphical changes. But its revolutionary. When other OS's do minor updates its made fan of. When apple or nokia makes a new model without changing the exterior that much its made fun of. When samsung makes the same thing with S3 and S4 its called revolutionary. Grow up little kid, grow up. Embrace the competition or your precious android will end up like symbian which had no competition until iOS came out and destroyed it in few years.

No one called the updates from 4.1 to 4.3 revolutionary. Those updates added minor features to what was already the most functional, customizable and feature rich OS. Secondly, most people complained that the S4 was too much like S3; that it wasn't revolutionary.

Last major upgrade was 4.0 to 4.1, the next major upgrade will possibly be 4.4 depending on how much Google changes.

You have an extra "r" in there. You mean "evolutionary".
Also, apple is the one that likes to try to brainwash its herd into thinking nothing else like it has come before.
Finally, revolutionary would be going against the trends or the norm, that is, like when QWERTY keyboards were introduced instead of the 12-key pad, arguably revolutionary. Or a large company building exclusively alternative-fueled vehicles while everyone else is still mostly petroleum-fueled (emphasis on large company, like Ford, Honda, Toyota, or Fiat/Chrysler, for instance, rather than Tesla or Coda). The introduction of toilet paper when folks had been using paper from magazines or catalogs (or other substances).

I have never used a windows phone, bit curious to play around with one. I know a couple phone sales people and I hear the same thing when they a windows phone that it's boring. I'll have to try for my self

Windows/Nokia phone is like a kenyan 10,000 meter runner, the race gets more and more exciting as the race goes on and then a blazing last 3/4 laps to get the spectators off their seats.
Apple/Andriod is like a 100 meter race, explosive in the beginning (2005) and before you know it, the race is all over and everyone moves on (2016).
Nokia is for life, Apple/Android is for Christmas, and we all know what happens to Christmas presents :)

you are 100% right bro
never felt bored from my nokia 6030(those were classic days)
nokia "e" series "n" series phones were awesome but monopoly & there ego let them down because they never innovated ...
hey but nokia is on windows now that sucks
had to sold my lumia 620 in a week bought for 13000 Rs sold for 9k Rs
so never be bying lumia again until limitation is removed from windows and gives a better battery life.. till then for me say no to windows
now getting bored from samsung touchwiz..
but in Android we are seeing innovation(some thing new) almost every day
we musnt forget that

So your saying it will plateau in 2016? Will WP be caught up to it by the mid 2020s? It will never pass android, android is better in almost every aspect even if you have no bias. An android phone can do everything useful a windows phone can do an thousands of things more.
35. papss (unregistered)
The problem I see with your statement is that it's bias in itself. Saying never is your opinion and there is no proof as none of use know the future. BUT I'd love to here more amusing fanboy comments spun as facts. Please humor me.

I ( former android power user) for one am very pleased with WP. I own the Nokia 920 and its rock stable, fast and fluid. No piles of bloatware like on a Samsung device, no lags and all the important apps are available in the app store. Looking forward for GDR3 and its enhancements

always on screen is alreday available in nokia simbians.....
18. papss (unregistered)
I'm not sure if you've been told but simbian is dead and no one cares. This is about a current os.
20. harigrg33 (Posts: 144; Member since: 20 May 2013)
Ur Current os is awful than dead os(symbian)
21. papss (unregistered)
I disagree and with no support your current platform is just that... A thing of the past. I like moving forward and I like with wp8 brings and the way it feels.
34. harigrg33 (Posts: 144; Member since: 20 May 2013)
If u like moving forward than switch to android...
36. papss (unregistered)
The problem with that is that it feels too robotic using android. Sometimes you can't look at the list of features and say something is better. Each person has different needs and android isn't always the answer.
37. harigrg33 (Posts: 144; Member since: 20 May 2013)
Can u elaborate 'it feels robotic using android' for me...
38. papss (unregistered)
It's a feeling I get from android...void of life or what I would call a personality. No matter the skin you over lay itfeels the same. IIt's all the same idea that Google is milking that came from the os's that came before. The grid icons are milked to death. Like I said, looking at the list of can do things that android can do (yes there are .any) it doesn't feel good to use for me.

well i hope this future update wont only bring this new color options but would remove the duplication bug in photos and music... it really is irritating to have these dupes...
it got worst after amber update... xD
but i still love my Lumia 720.. :)
24. -box- (Posts: 3715; Member since: 04 Jan 2012)
I haven't encountered this on my 900 or 925. Will you elaborate?
25. shadez10 (Posts: 395; Member since: 15 Jan 2012)
my photos and music are stored on SD... and when i take photos... sometimes it duplicates. sometimes not...
on the music side, i transfer my music via usb copy/paste. and when i check my music on the phone it gets duplicated and sometimes 3 of the same song, but when you check via file explorer on PC there is no duplication... and when i try to delete 1 of the dupes it will delete all of it... same goes with the photos...
26. papss (unregistered)
Ah see my l920 (that I used to have) nor my l1020 have sd so I can't comment on that. I've not had duplicates in my albums
27. shadez10 (Posts: 395; Member since: 15 Jan 2012)
good for you, it is so irritating, but ive found ways to illiminate the dupes in music, i use card reader to transfer music to sd and it wont show dupes anymore, but im not sure if it really is the solution as the photos still keeps showing dupes. and i found on WPcentral forum that many WP users with SD has encountered this problems. i hope this bug will be solved...
28. papss (unregistered)
Yeah man that stinks. I'm glad I've not had an issue. Let's see how the 1520 handles this issue.

Just got me a 925 to compliment my G Pro, hope GDR3 is nice!
