The Naite (J105a) clock/calendar simply don't work properly. Problems I encountered are:
Changing to/from Standard & Day Light Saving time must be done manually, yet there is nothing in the manual about it. (I found it accidentally.)
Changing the time, regardless of how it's done:
* using the phone's Standard to Day Light Saving time change feature,
* changing the actual clock time,
* PC Suite/Companion, or
* the cell phone service provider changes the time.
changes the times of ALL the entries in the calendar.
This means that appointments are move ahead or back as the the switch to/from ST - DST is made requiring all the entries to be corrected.
Backing up the phone, changing the time, & then restoring the calendar exacerbates the problem by:
* changing all entries to appointments.
(i.e. birthdays, vacations, and events are ALL converted to appointments.)
* turning off the 'All day' tags.
When entering an annual event (such as a wedding anniversary, or the anniversary of an important event (such as the 1st moon landing)) the calendar will not accept any dates before 1971. The only way to add such an event is to categorize it as a birthday.
It should be possible to set a bit to prevent the Delete function from removing a data item, such as blood test results.
Birthdays & anniversaries should display the age of the person/event. i.e This is the 42nd anniversary of the 1st moon landing or Albert Einstein's 132rd birthday.
Entries tagged as birthdays should automatically set the tags for 'All day' to On & 'Recurrence' to Yearly.
When an entry in the calendar is edited, regardless of whether or not the 'Recurrence' bit is set to Yearly the entry is treated as if it is a 1 time occurrence, even birthdays! However, when the Find function is used the entry is displayed as having the 'Recurrence' bit is set.
Sony Ericsson PC Suite/Companion does not recognize any of the categorization tags (Birthday, Vacation, or Other.)
Floating dates can not be entered. (i.e. Labour Day is the 1st Monday of September not a fixed calendar date.)
I will be upgrading to a smart phone when the contract I have is over. There are 2 criteria which will determine which brand of smart phone I get.
1. Repair/lack of repair these obvious errors. and
2. Linux versions of the phone backup & media software.
As I have a Masters Degree in Computer Science, I am a retired Software Quality Assurance Engineer & a Unix/Linux system administrator, I know that these issues are not difficult to remedy. Especially as the Sony Ericsson smart phone Xperia is an Android (i.e. Linux) based phone. If Sony Ericsson can't even write simple cell phone software to work properly, I would not trust Sony Ericsson to program a smart phone.
Furthermore, upgrading the phone software completely wiped out ALL of the applications I had installed & the data I had entered into them. The very least the upgrade software should do is warn the user.
I hv gone through many mobiles across many brands in this range. This is the best model i hv arrived at. Almost no negative reviews for this.... Nice phone in this range.... Good Camera clarity and display.... sleek look and has excellent features....
