A clamshell flip phone from Oppo stablemate Vivo is "imminent" says tipster
Vivo, one of the smartphone brands under the umbrella of China's BBK Electronics, released its first foldable phone last April when the Vivo X Fold was launched. The Vivo X Fold+ was released in September with an upgraded chipset (the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 replaced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1), a slightly larger battery, and faster wired charging speeds. Reportedly, the company is working on the X Fold 2 which could be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and feature wired charging at 120W.

Now, like stablemate Oppo has already done (also under the BBK umbrella), there is talk about Vivo adding a clamshell flipper to its foldable line. Oppo released the foldable Find N in December 2021 and released the Find N2 sequel a year later along with the Find N2 Flip. Twitter tipster SnoopyTech (via AndroidPolice) posted a tweet stating that the Vivo X Flip will carry a model number of V2256A. SnoopyTech goes on to say that the device has received Google Play certification and its unveiling could take place soon.

Since Oppo and Vivo have the same parent company, there is a chance that the Vivo X Flip could share some specs and features with the Oppo Find N2 Flip. The latter flips open to reveal a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2520 resolution (FHD+) and a 120Hz refresh rate. Oppo's clamshell is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC and includes 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage.

The camera array includes a 50MP rear-facing primary camera alongside an 8MP ultra-wide camera and there is a 32MP front-facing camera for selfies and video chats. A 4300mAh battery (which charges at 44W) keeps the lights on. As a comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 4's battery weighs in at 3700mAh.

There is no guarantee that Vivo will resort to copying the specs and features of the Oppo Find N2 Flip, but it seems like a great time saver. Remember, OnePlus is also a BBK brand and some Oppo features have appeared on OnePlus handsets over the years.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 were the top-selling foldables in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The clamshells bring a little nostalgia (especially the Motorola Razr) and who doesn't want to hang up after an angry phone call by slapping together the two halves of their clamshell phone to create that satisfying slamming sound and feel?
