I found an IMDb hack that lets you watch the latest movies without a Netflix subscription – but is it safe?

The trick is indeed too good to be true.

OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime contain most of the recently released movies and shows. However, you need to pay their subscription fee to watch all this content. But what if I tell you that I have found a hack that lets you watch all the latest movies and shows for free from the day they hit the theater or any of the OTT platforms?

The viral IMDb hack

My X and Threads profiles are flooded with reports from different users posting about the viral IMDb hack. It basically lets you watch any movie, series, or show whose details are uploaded on an IMDb profile for free.

Since the deal sounded very promising, I got excited and gave it a try. Guess what, it actually works! I was able to watch the recently released Michael movie on my Pixel 10 smartphone without paying anything out of pocket.

Doesn't the whole deal smell a bit fishy to you?

While the trick sounds very cool and fascinating, there's a big catch you need to be aware of. When I used the IMDb hack, I noticed that I was being redirected to a completely different third-party streaming site, and that's where the danger starts.

Such websites often operate in legal gray areas and are filled with pop-ups and trackers. I noticed that whenever I touched somewhere on the screen, I was immediately redirected to a completely new website that appeared very fishy.

While I, personally, didn't face any problems, there's a very high possibility that malicious actors might use such websites to push malicious scripts. For instance, if you tap the play button intending to play a movie, you might end up downloading spyware onto your device. Popular security firm Kaspersky, in fact, discussed a similar incident in one of its blog posts, where users who hit the play button intending to watch a movie ended up on a scammy website.

Privacy or free entertainment – be honest, what would you choose?

It's illegal anyway

Even if you use browsers like Brave to reduce the risk you are going to face because of using this trick, you should always remember that watching content without paying for it is illegal. Streaming movies and shows via unauthorized sites, where you'd otherwise need a subscription, violates copyright laws. Furthermore, you would do an injustice to all the hard work of the individuals who have worked on a movie if you are watching it through illegal means.

Watch your favorite heroes in action legally

Using the IMDB trick is both illegal and unsafe. What you should do instead is subscribe to the OTT platform on which your favorite hero's movie is available. For instance, if you want to watch Apex, which was recently added to Netflix, you can purchase a subscription that starts at $8.99 per month.

If you are a fan of The Boys series that's available on Amazon Prime and want to watch its latest season, then you can subscribe to the platform whose subscription cost starts from $15 per month.
