Before we go to the superficial part of it all and discuss the way this phone looks, it's important to note that this isn't some useless tool: quite the contrary, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Red Transparent Edition is a beast of a flagship.
It's identical to the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max which we told you about mere hours ago. We're dealing with a 6.9-inch AMOLED screen with up to 4000 nits of brightness, a 2.9-inch secondary AMOLED screen (also up to 4000 nits of brightness) on its back and the state-of-the-art Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor.
The phone offers a 200 MP main camera, a 200 MP secondary periscope telephoto snapper, a 50 MP ultra-wide and a 50 MP selfie. To top it off, there's a massive 8,500 mAh battery with 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 27W reverse wireless charging speeds.

I've often said that I don't care too much about what my phone looks like as long as it's black. But… if I were cruising for a large Chinese flagship with a larger battery and the most potent chipset around, I'd pick the Red Transparent Edition in a heartbeat.
First, the red hue itself is striking. Second, the transparent design is executed brilliantly and it doesn't go into the infantile territory (no offense, Nothing fans). In my eyes, the Red Transparent Edition is playing with the cyberpunk aesthetic, but in a formal kind of way, which is why I like it. Xiaomi hasn't overdone it and we get equal parts of playfulness, sci-fi and class.

The blue one is jaw-dropping too
And if by some chance you detest the color red, Xiaomi has black, white, icy peach pink and galaxy blue options to choose from, too.

Yes, the finish resembles the night sky and the tiny star-like particles truly sparkle (but not in an in-your-face kind of way) depending on the angle you're holding it and the light sources around you. This belongs to the museum.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Red Transparent Edition would look equally great both at a formal business meeting and at the basketball court.
Unless, you know, you slap a non-transparent case on it. Then, the magic is gone, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. So do yourself a favor and if you insist on using a case on this phone, use the transparent one that's included in the box.
