The brand that sells the most isn't necessarily the one that innovates the hardest and both Samsung and Apple are the living proof.
These popular and beloved giants have plenty of cool tricks up their sleeve, like the Privacy Display in the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but somehow have forgotten all about big battery cells in recent years.
The aforementioned Galaxy S26 Ultra is stuck at 5,000 mAh and the iPhone 17 Pro Max is gravitating around the same number with its 5,088 mAh cell for the nano-SIM model and the 4,832 mAh for the eSIM variant.
Meanwhile, we have another 10,000 mAh phone that should put both Apple and Samsung to shame.
Don't you know I'm POCO?!
It's not sold officially in the US, though. | Image by Xiaomi
Poco is a subsidiary of Xiaomi and in many regions across the world, it's popular. In the US, not so much. Since the brand isn't officially distributed stateside, only aficionados like you know about it or have imported one.
The brand-new Poco X8 Power looks like a solid choice for anyone who isn't concerned about flashy design but values battery life above everything else. The Poco X8 Power has just been announced in India and its most notable feature is, of course, its 10,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery cell.
The Poco X8 Power supports 100W wired charging speeds, which is crucial. Imagine what having to charge that thing at Samsung-like speeds (~45W) would be like—a nightmare. The new Poco can also charge other devices at up to 27W, which is also pretty cool.

Now, don't be fooled by that 10,000 mAh battery: the phone is still relatively slim at 8.65 mm and it weighs 229 grams. Not bad. For reference, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is 8.75 mm thick and it's over 230 grams.
Solid display, solid chipset
The 6.83-inch Poco X8 Power comes with a flat AMOLED screen (120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and peak brightness up to 3,500 nits). There are several eye protection and gaming-oriented features on board like TUV Triple Eye Protection and 3,200Hz touch sampling in Game Turbo mode.
In terms of raw power, you're getting the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, so you're clearly not getting the same performance levels as with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, for example.
There's up to 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256 GB storage (this variant utilizes the fast UFS 4.1 standard)
What about the price?
The Poco X8 Power phone is promised four OS upgrades and six years of security patches. In India, it's sold for Rs 35,999, which, when directly converted, is about $380.
What is to blame the most for higher smartphone prices this year?
