Apple's iPhones are the go-to phone for hundreds of millions, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is as fresh as ever, Google has just released its Pixel 11 line (I struggle to come up with anything positive about this incremental upgrade), but… Truth is, right now, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the most popular kid on the block.
This passport-resembling, wider-than-taller foldable is enjoying what has turned out to be way longer than just its proverbial fifteen minutes of glory.
It's interesting to see whether Apple will be able to join the party, as Cupertino will be releasing its own spin on the wider-than-taller form factor with the alleged iPhone Ultra in some weeks time.
But there's another!
Oppo is moving in the shadows

Technically speaking, Huawei has already released its Pura X Max and it's also a wider foldable. But given how far away Huawei is from US users' hearts (and from proper Google and Android support), it's better to pretend this hasn't happened.
That's where Oppo comes in… with a major twist. Sure, Oppo isn't particularly popular in the US, either; but at least with its devices, you get a proper Android experience (even if you've got a Chinese ROM device on your hands).
Oppo wants to explore (and exploit) the wider-than-taller craze and join the party.

How do you feel about thick camera systems?
But it doesn't fold!
This is where things get funny. Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the alleged iPhone Ultra—two proper foldables with hinges and everything else that a foldable needs—Oppo will reportedly be making a non-folding, wider slab phone.
Wait, what?
I guess this mystic phone by Oppo is meant for all those among us who want a wider phone but would rather not pay the eye-watering cost of a foldable.
A phablet, if you like! This bad boy could be released "in the first half of 2027" with a 6.3- to 6.4-inch 1.5K LTPO display with thin bezels.
Serious cameras
This probably won't be your everyday mid-ranger, though. Oppo's device could be a proper flagship (with a possible moniker of Oppo Reno X, but take that with a grain of salt).
Per the latest reports, the phone could come with a 200 MP sensor for its main (wide) camera. What's more, there could be a dedicated periscope telephoto snapper on its back.
Foldables still can't match dedicated camera phones, but this Oppo device isn't a foldable: so, maybe Oppo could really pull this one off.
Mint Mobile is now allowing you to get whichever plan you like for either three, six, or 12 months for just $15/mo. If you go for the six-month unlimited service, for instance, you'll now have to pay just $90 upfront instead of $210.
