Even with options like 5G home internet and satellite broadband proliferating, fiber remains king. T-Mobile formally entered the fray last year and is now raising the stakes with a new plan and a decade-long price pledge.
5 Gig plan
T-Mobile has announced a new 5 Gig fiber plan, its fastest tier yet. Priced at $90 a month with AutoPay enabled, it comes with a 10-year price guarantee. Taxes are extra.
It's aimed at households with multiple power users who need blazing-fast speeds and high bandwidth for online gaming, AI tools, and other use cases.
The 5 Gig plan offers the same upload and download speeds. Upload speeds typically lag behind download speeds, but as an increasing number of users are creating as much content as they consume, having symmetrical speeds has become paramount. Security cameras and cloud backups will also benefit from faster upload speeds.
The plan includes a free Wi-Fi router and installation, with no data caps or no binding contract. Fiber customers also gain access to the T-Mobile Tuesdays loyalty program.
Think about how much more we’re asking our internet to handle today than just a few years ago. Between online gaming, smart devices and AI-powered tools, there’s more happening online in our households than ever.

Why might you choose this plan?
High stakes
As the postpaid wireless market matures, carriers are looking to convergence to boost retention. Convergence is the combination of wireless and internet service. T-Mobile isn't going for a hard bundle, nor is it offering any special discounts for having both services. Still, having the same providers for postpaid and internet can deter customers from switching.
Way too fast

5 Gig is overkill for most customers, who might be better served by T-Mobile's 2 Gig, 1 Gig, or 300 Mbps plans. However, with many people now working from home or living in hyperconnected households with many devices running simultaneously, the extra capacity may prove worthwhile.
The 10-year price guarantee is another reason to go for the plan. T-Mobile is unlikely to go back on its pledge after what happened the last time it broke one.
And with a 10-year price guarantee, customers get peace of mind knowing the price of their internet won’t change for years to come.
