Don't expect instant access to Siri AI when stable iOS 27 drops

Siri AI is the main attraction of iOS 27. Many iPhone users, like myself, downloaded the iOS 27 beta as soon as the WWDC 2026 keynote ended back in June just to try Apple's new and improved AI assistant. As I noted at the time, I had to join a waitlist for the new Siri, and I didn't want to wait any longer.
Expect to be put on a waiting list for Siri AI when you install stable iOS 27 next month
As it turned out, my wait was not long, amounting to less than one hour. Some iPhone users who installed the first iOS 27 beta on June 6 right when the keynote ended had to stay on the waitlist for a couple of weeks before gaining access to iOS 27. I guess I was lucky.

The reason why I'm bringing this up is because we are closing in on the September dissemination of the stable iOS 27 update. Those who really want to use the new and improved Siri AI but were too anxious to install the beta, will finally get the chance in a matter of weeks. However, don't expect to immediately install iOS 27 and immediately start firing queries at the newly intelligent assistant.

That's because Apple will request that those installing iOS 27 on the iPhone and Mac join a waitlist before being allowed to use Siri AI, just as it did with the iOS 27 and macOS 27 betas. Apple reportedly had the waitlist used for the iOS 27 and macOS 27 betas so it could calculate the server capacity it needed to process AI queries and tasks that cannot be handled on-device and must be answered via the cloud.
Apple has greatly improved Siri AI since the first iOS 27 beta was released
Apple has done a great job improving Siri AI from the initial iOS 27 beta release to yesterday's release of iOS 27 developer beta 7 and Public Beta 5. With the update, you receive in-depth responses from Siri on almost every topic you can think of. Siri will still set your alarms and timers, and there is a standalone Siri app if you need to refer back to a previous response.
There are still some issues with Siri AI that Apple needs to fix
There are some glitches that I'm hoping Apple will be able to clear up in time for the stable iOS 27 release:
- Occasionally Siri AI cuts me off in the middle of a long verbal prompt.
- Sometimes Siri AI does not hear my verbal prompt correctly.
If Siri AI cannot provide you with a response you can trust, do what I do. Install other AI apps from the App Store (such as Gemini, ChatGPT, Copilot and Claude) and use one of these apps instead.
Why didn't you install iOS 27 beta on your iPhone?
Keep in mind that if you use an AI app from the App Store you won't be able to set alarms and timers using those AI apps.You can use Siri AI to set alarms and timers.
The new Siri uses a custom 1.2 trillion parameter model based on Google's Gemini technology. Apple is reportedly paying Google $1 billion a year to use Google's Gemini Large Language Model (LLM). Trust me. You'll be able to see the difference between old-school Siri and Siri AI from the moment you get your first response from the new version of the assistant.
It's almost as though Siri went to Oz and asked the Wizard for a brain and actually received one. Apple has delivered with Siri AI and you are going to find yourself using it much more than you used Siri before.
