Galaxy S27 Ultra leaks keep piling up, even though the Galaxy Z Fold 8 hype hasn't died down yet. So far, we've got some early renders that show a major camera redesign, and we also found out Samsung may add a super cool feature that would help the display repair minor scratches on its own.
Now, a fresh leak sheds some light on one of the areas many feel Samsung doesn't innovate enough in: the battery.

According to a fresh X leak by tipster kro_roe, Samsung may be working on a Galaxy S27 Ultra with a substantial battery size boost. The leaker claims there are currently five prototypes in the works, with battery capacities ranging between 5,700mAh and 6,000mAh.
But wait, it gets (somewhat) better: supposedly, there are some test units without an S Pen. By freeing up physical space, Samsung might be able to push the battery up to 7,000mAh on next year's flagship phone.
Given that the Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 5,000mAh battery, we're essentially talking about a 2,000mAh boost here. However, it's unclear whether the South Korean tech giant will actually go through with this particular design, especially since these are still prototype units.

One small leap for Samsung
Some might think a 7,000mAh battery isn't that big of a deal, and when we look at some Chinese OEMs, I can't help but agree. Devices with 10,000mAh batteries already exist in some markets, making Samsung's push in this area feel more like a small leap forward.
But when we look at Apple, things change. Recent rumors suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max may debut with a hefty 5,567mAh, up from 5,088mAh on the previous model. If both rumors ultimately check out, Samsung could actually edge out its biggest competitor with its upcoming flagship.

And yet, one big question remains unanswered: if Samsung removes the S Pen from its Galaxy S27 Ultra, would fans be happy? As I see it, most probably would.
I mean, sure, power users were unhappy with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung's first globally available foldable phone without the beloved S Pen functionality. But the Galaxy S27 Ultra is no foldable, so removing this extra flex in favor of a substantially bigger battery might just play out well.
Still, those who frequently use the S Pen and appreciate the extra functionality it provides may think it's not the best way to go.

Personally, I think it's high time Samsung pushed things a bit further. We've gone through six Galaxy S Ultra generations with a 5,000mAh battery, so I feel it's definitely time for a change.
A 7,000mAh battery would be a pretty substantial upgrade, too, and honestly, it's the kind of improvement I'd appreciate every single day. That said, I have to admit I'm not entirely happy about the possibility of next year's flagship dropping S Pen support.
The stylus has been a defining part of the Ultra experience for years, and if it's suddenly gone, I can't help but feel that next year's Galaxy S27 Ultra may just not be as "Ultra" as its predecessors.
