Yesterday, after my 5K run, I noticed that my Huawei Watch 5 failed to connect to Strava. This is the worst possible scenario when you've finally reached that sub-20-minute time you were training for for months. It turns out I'm not alone in this, as there are several Reddit threads reporting similar issues.
Strava fails to connect and sync to many smartwatches
The first Reddit thread dates back nine days. | Image by Reddit
The problem was first reported nine days ago on the Strava subreddit forums. "Ran this morning, but it hasn’t syncing. Any one having syncing issues today?" reads the original post. Many users reported the same syncing issue in the comments, and the problem is apparently on Strava's end. People report the syncing problem on all kinds of devices, Apple Watch models included.
The same issue appeared in two separate on the Galaxy Watch subreddit. | Images by Reddit
There are two separate Reddit threads on the Galaxy Watch subreddit describing the same issue. When trying to connect to Strava, the app returns an error message reading "There was an error connecting your device."
Both threads are 3 days old, and again, many users confirm the issue in the comments.
There's no official fix yet
There's an official statement from Stava, but it tells us nothing at all. | Image by Strava
There's no official solution, but our colleagues at Android Authority have managed to get an official statement from Strava. According to the spokesperson, the issues are not connected, and such problems occur due to the different ecosystems:

The issues noted are isolated and disconnected from one another. While we work with each of our device partners to make integration with Strava as smooth as possible, every ecosystem has a slightly different integration, so issues occasionally occur.

The statement is a clear example of PR talk, saying absolutely nothing about the issue or a potential fix. However, there is a workaround some users found working for them.
Are you having any syncing issues with your Strava app and your smartwatch?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Strava app
One user on the Galaxy Watch subreddit reported that uninstalling Strava and reinstalling the app fixed the issue. This workaround doesn't work for everyone, but you should try it if you're experiencing issues with your Strava app syncing with your smartwatch.
I had this issue and had to completely uninstall strava, after I installed it again it was ok

For some people, the sync issue resolved on its own eventually, but the sync took a very long time to go through. You can record your activity manually, of course, but that's not a long-term solution.
We'll keep you updated on any further developments. Are you having any syncing issues with your Strava app and your smartwatch?
