Thousands of iOS apps started crashing, and it appears Google is the culprit. Before you suspect any foul play, the reason for the crashes is a strange issue with one of Google's Firebase SDKs. The problem resulted in apps crashing left and right, sending developers into nervous breakdowns.

According to a thread on the Google Firebase GitHub issue tracker (now resolved), a problem with Google’s Firebase SDK caused apps to crash at launch a couple of hours ago. The issue affected iOS apps because many rely on Firebase iOS and Google Analytics to send statistics and work properly.
This sparked an avalanche of panicked developers wondering what was going on. Some developers thought they had done something wrong and spent a fortune on AI tokens trying to debug their apps.

Many devs were able to track the issue to Firebase, but they couldn't do much to fix it other than report it directly to Google. Fortunately, Google rolled out a fix quite fast, only a couple of hours after the bug manifested itself.
The caveat here is that, due to caching, apps could continue crashing for up to four hours after the fix was deployed.
According to the latest reports from developers, app crashes have dropped significantly, but they're still happening.

Even though Google admitted something was wrong with Firebase and even rolled out an emergency fix, the company hasn't detailed the nature of the problem.
The Firebase Status Dashboard is silent and doesn't show anything out of order, so we're in the dark about the root cause of the incident.
