The iPhone Duo pre-orders open in just a few days, but there's one aspect of the launch I totally misjudged. Apparently, having all the apps and games work flawlessly on day one is hugely important to people. Especially when it comes to foldables.

I wrote an article about Apple's guidelines for developers, which the company published as the iPhone Duo launch draws near. The poll inside the article showed an interesting trend I wasn't aware of. It appears that having no compatibility issues with apps and games on day one is very important.
Almost 65% of all voters said that day-one app compatibility is extremely important. A little over 22% found app compatibility somewhat important, and only 12% didn't care about it on day one.
This goes to show that Apple is doing the right thing by making sure that the iPhone Duo launch is flawless when it comes to the software experience.
Avoiding the Android mistake

I've seen my fair share of broken apps on Android foldables, but I always patiently waited for updates and fixes, or just settled for the way things were.
The key difference here lies in the contrasts between Android and iOS. We've had Android-exclusive foldables until now and have gotten kind of used to a less-than-perfect software experience.

The iPhone Duo, being the first iOS foldable, is about to change that. But the more interesting and important fact is that, apparently, people aren't okay with the status quo.
How to fix the Play Store, and will the iPhone Duo change anything?
Can Google learn something from the iPhone Duo and make Android foldables better? | Image by Apple
One can argue that the open-source nature of Android — and the Play Store in particular — is the root cause of the problem. And that's absolutely true. But can we fix the Play Store and Android foldables? And will the iPhone Duo help?
I don't see Google changing its Play Store policy anytime soon. However, if the iPhone Duo scores a big win in this particular area, Google might want to do something about it, given that the company has serious plans for the Pixel series.
In any case, I'm waiting for the iPhone Duo to land on our test bench and answer a bunch of very important questions. Mainly, has Apple cracked the foldable code?
