See? I told you the foldable iPhone Ultra was going to revolutionize the industry

The presence of Apple's highly anticipated foldable iPhone Ultra can already be felt across the industry.

The foldable iPhone — most likely named the iPhone Ultra — isn’t even out yet, that happens next month, but it’s already revolutionizing the foldable smartphone industry like I had predicted. Excitement for foldables is up and other manufacturers are jumping into the market with direct alternatives to Apple’s highly anticipated upcoming foldable flagship.

Xiaomi 18 Fold pre-orders skyrocket

The Xiaomi 18 Fold is a wide-folding phone similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the upcoming iPhone Ultra. According to a new report (translated source) building on another report, pre-orders for the Xiaomi 18 Fold — which is set to release next month as well, though only in China for now — have surpassed previous years’ records drastically.

This follows the Galaxy Z Fold 8 selling incredibly well globally, as the new form factor drummed up excitement for foldable smartphones again. Sales expectations for the foldable iPhone are also very high, despite its rumored $2,000+ price tag.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 and why I think it came to be

Samsung is exclusively providing the displays for the iPhone Ultra. This is conjecture, but I believe that the company decided to make a wide-folding smartphone when Apple first reached out to it with its required specifications.

Once the designs leaked in the industry, Huawei put a spin on its Pura X foldable and released the Pura X Max to compete. Shortly after, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 was shown off to the world. Both phones have performed exceptionally well, and the Xiaomi 18 Fold’s pre-orders signal a similar outcome.

The iPhone Ultra is one to keep an eye on:

A renaissance of foldables

Apple’s entry into any field shakes things up, and the iPhone Ultra’s effects can already be seen and felt across the smartphone industry before it’s even made its big debut. Because of the iPhone Ultra, there is now more choice for consumers when it comes to the kinds of foldables that are available to them, and the wide-folding form factor is quite popular.

In addition, more smartphone manufacturers might enter the foldable market if demand skyrockets with all of these new models. It’s a win-win situation for both the manufacturers and the customers.

See? Told you

I said that this would happen when the first leaks for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 emerged. Whether you love it or hate it, Apple’s influence is undeniable across the tech world.

The foldable industry is changing for the better, in my opinion, which is why I’m also so hopeful for the all-glass iPhone that Apple plans to release one day.
