Samsung appears to be having a hard time keeping its devices under wraps. Just recently, real-life images of the Tab S12+ popped up online, giving us a real-world look into the upcoming premium tablet. But now, a much more exciting device has shown up in full glory, and it supposedly comes from the most unlikely of places.
Are we to believe our eyes?

Just hours ago, Reddit user GalaxyNote7Recalled posted what appears to be a very realistic image of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8. According to the user, the photo was taken at a Samsung retailer in South Korea, with employees confirming the showcased device is indeed the brand's first-ever wide foldable and asking customers not to take photos.
If the device in the front of the picture is indeed the Galaxy Z Fold 8, then the one behind it could be the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Similarly, the smaller foldable on the left side might be the Z Flip 8.
Full disclosure: while the image appears to be real, we wouldn't confirm it's 100% authentic. Historically, Samsung doesn't showcase unannounced foldables ahead of launch at retail stores. So far, the only exception has been the Galaxy Z TriFold, which was shown at a tech summit in South Korea before launch.

Has Samsung finally nailed the form factor with the Galaxy Z Fold 8?
User reaction and impact
Funny enough, one particular user has already come up with a nickname for the upcoming foldable phone, calling it a "Flop."
considering it looks like a Galaxy z flip and fold together I'd call it a Galaxy flop

Looking broadly, Samsung's decision to include a passport-style device for the first time ever might have been influenced by Apple's decision to enter the market. As we know, Apple's iPhone Ultra is rumored to feature a similar passport-style form factor, so Samsung could have developed its own version in order to remain competitive.
Industry insiders have also predicted that foldable phone shipments are expected to grow by 24% year over year in 2026, making this a pivotal year for the foldable phone market.
What's next for Samsung?

So far, one of the biggest complaints among foldable phone users has been the narrow design. By adopting a new form factor alongside its traditional foldable, Samsung is attempting to address one of the category's biggest weaknesses while giving consumers more choice.
With Motorola having released a book-like device and Apple launching its own version around September, Samsung has much fiercer rivals. However, this could ultimately turn out to be favorable for fans, as competition could easily drive Samsung into more innovations.

A change of hearts

I'm hoping that the Z Fold 8 is as slim as the Z Fold 7. | Image by PhoneArena
I've never been a fan of foldable phones myself. I've always found the form factor a little confusing, and the devices themselves seemed too fragile for everyday use. But now that I'm seeing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in real life (or at least what appears to be the brand's wide foldable), I'm starting to understand the appeal of this design.
By the looks of it, Samsung's first-ever wide foldable may turn out to be a success. In any case, we won't have to wait much longer for it, as Samsung is expected to unveil it alongside the Z Fold 8 Ultra and the Z Flip 8 on July 22 in London.
