So much for a 5,800 mAh battery on Apple's foldable. | Image by Fpt.
Some time back, reports came in about the upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra and its battery capacity. Apple was apparently planning to include a 5,400 mAh, or perhaps even a 5,800 mAh battery in its foldable flagship.
Unfortunately, it now seems like that might no longer be the case.
Battery supplier files new registrations

According to a new report (translated source), a battery supplier for Apple has filed two new registrations:
1,921 mAh
2,962 mAh
This makes a combined total capacity of only 4,883 mAh, far below the 5,800 mAh battery capacity that had excited me prior. If this is the battery that makes it to the foldable iPhone this year, then Apple will likely market it as a 5,000 mAh battery. If the company makes any mention of it at all, that is.
What is the biggest reason for getting a foldable iPhone, in your opinion?
Is this the iPhone Ultra battery?
Right now, there’s no way to confirm whether this is the battery capacity that the iPhone Ultra will ship with later this year. The dual-cell configuration does heavily lean in that direction, however.
A 4,800 mAh battery, while not as terrible as the 3,149 mAh battery of the iPhone Air, isn’t exactly great for 2026. This is the year when some manufacturers have even pushed past 10,000 mAh batteries.

When compared to other existing foldables popular in the U.S., the iPhone Ultra manages to hold its own. Last year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a battery capacity of 4,400 mAh, while the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has a battery capacity of 5,015 mAh.
However, at least Samsung is all but confirmed to be upgrading its battery for its foldable flagship this month. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will have a battery capacity of 5,000 mAh according to reports. Google will probably also include modest increases in battery capacity for its Pixel 11 line this year.
I would guess that it’s 4,800 mAh

Curiously, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 — not the Ultra — which will directly compete with the iPhone Ultra, has a battery capacity of 4,800 mAh according to reports. Given the similarities between the two phones and the reason for why a wide-folding Galaxy even exists now, I would guess that the iPhone Ultra will also have a battery capacity of 4,800 mAh.
Then again, Apple never really likes even round numbers that are in line with competitors, so it will probably be around the 4,900 mAh mark, give or take. It doesn’t matter that much as long as the phone is able to provide decent screen-on time.
Though, for the alleged price of over $2,000, it would have been nice to have something better than just “decent”.
