Once again, Samsung is about to come ahead of Apple by launching the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8 way ahead of the rumored iPhone Ultra. Expected at the Galaxy Unpacked event next week, the device could have at least a month before its main rival even makes it to the market.
That means Samsung has won, right?
Well, not really, at least according to your opinion.
Apple could be the winner of the wide foldable race after all
One thing that would make you choose a phone just like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 over the foldable iPhone Ultra would be if it was made by Apple. Or at least that’s what a recent poll we ran showed.
Reserve the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Z Flip 8 at Samsung
Samsung has just opened its reservation campaign, allowing you to reserve your next Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Z Flip 8 device. The official store is giving you a $30 reservation credit, plus a chance to win one of 10 $500 gift cards.
We asked you what would make you pick the Fold 8 over the iPhone Ultra, and the most popular response was “If Apple made it.” That was the choice of a little over 40% of you, showing that Apple already has an advantage over Samsung’s wide foldable.
What would make you pick the Fold 8 over the iPhone Ultra?
Samsung still has a chance

Fortunately, not everything is lost for Samsung. Nearly 32% of you said that you'd pick a Galaxy Z Fold 8 if it comes with better specs. This could be a difficult thing to compare, but the Korean company may have an edge over Apple.
According to the latest rumors, the Z Fold 8 will feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset and up to 16GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the iPhone Ultra is expected to rock the A20 Pro chipset and 12GB of RAM.

Another piece of good news is that a little over 28% of you said they’d get a Samsung wide foldable if it has a leaner and lighter design. That’s almost certainly going to be the case, as the iPhone Ultra is rumored to be thicker, wider, and weigh as much as 255 grams.
Meanwhile, the Z Fold 8 will be a tad taller, but noticeably lighter at 201 g. When folded, the two phones will have practically the same thickness, but unfolded, the Samsung will be slightly thinner.
One more downside for Apple
While I wouldn’t worry too much about Apple’s bottom line, its foldable is also expected to be noticeably more expensive than the Fold 8. Even if most buyers aren't concerned about the small design and performance differences, everyone cares about the pricing. Of course we’ll need to wait until both devices premiere to see how things go.
