The Burgundy iPhone 18 Pro Max paint is already fading, much to my disappointment

Just like with the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro from last year, the iPhone 18 Pro has an unacceptable problem with its new Burgundy color option.

The iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max look really pretty in the new Burgundy color, in my opinion, and sales worldwide seem to indicate that many of you agree. Which means it’s a shame that the phones seem to be carrying over the same paint issues that plagued the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max last year.

iPhone 18 Pro Max paint gets scrubbed away

In a new report, one iPhone 18 Pro Max user shares their experience with their brand-new phone. After only two weeks of use, the user discovered that a corner of the phone was already seeing the Burgundy shade being scrubbed off just from daily wear and tear.

Burgundy is the new Cosmic Orange

The Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro models from last year were especially prone to problems. In addition to being scrubbed off, the chassis on some units changed colors from orange to a light pinkish gold.

This is likely due to the softer aluminum body, which Apple has switched to from titanium because of better thermal conductivity. The aluminum chassis is also highly susceptible to scratches, dents, and other forms of damage from short falls.

Use a case, or just buy a better phone

These problems often happen to iPhone models used without a phone case, as is also true in this instance with the Burgundy iPhone 18 Pro Max. If you’re worried about this happening to your iPhone 18, you should probably invest in a good case.

This isn’t the first time that such a thing has happened with the Burgundy iPhone 18 Pro, and many Apple fans are saying that using a case is common sense. However, some also agree that this shouldn’t be a problem for such an expensive flagship smartphone and that going without a case is a perfectly valid decision.

This shouldn’t be happening

I don’t like using phone cases at all, if I buy a flagship phone, I want to use it as the company designed it. If the phone can’t handle that, then it is a badly designed product.

Tom Marieb — Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple — says that it makes his skin crawl when people use a screen protector on an iPhone. Marieb feels that it completely ruins the feel of a phone that had a lot of blood, sweat, and tears put into its design.

I agree strongly, so perhaps Apple should start making phones that either don’t cost $2,000 or are able to withstand being held and being placed on a desk like all of their rival offerings. My hopes that Apple might have fixed this ridiculous problem have been dashed, and I’m even more content with my decision to get a Fold 8 instead.
