Released a couple of years after its predecessor, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 was followed up surprisingly quickly by an improved new rugged timepiece, which theoretically should have replaced the 2025 edition on all your early holiday shopping lists this year.

But because the Apple Watch Ultra 4 looks pretty much identical to its predecessor at first glance while bringing relatively modest internal upgrades to the table, I think you should still strongly consider buying the Apple Watch Ultra 3... at the right price.

With a Rugged Black Titanium Case and Black Titanium Milanese Loop, last year's super-tough and powerful Apple Watch Ultra 3 normally costs a fortune, currently fetching a record $200 less than usual with no special requirements. This product is obviously humbler than the new Apple Watch Ultra 4, but not by that much to justify a $200 price difference.

Technically, the Apple S10-powered device with built-in 5G and satellite connectivity is typically available for the same $799 as its successor, but both products come in multiple versions, some of which carry recommended prices of $899. One such Ultra 3 model is currently marked down by a whopping 200 bucks on Amazon, and although the e-commerce giant is preparing for its second big Prime Day sales event of the year, something tells me you won't be able to top this discount anytime soon (if ever).

As far as I know, you're looking at a new record high discount for any Apple Watch Ultra 3 variant here, and in case you're wondering what's so special about this that it warrants a list price of $899 instead of $799, the answer is an ultra-stylish (and super-robust) Black Titanium Milanese Loop.

Of course, the wearable's actual body is just as tough and similarly elegant, matching the black color and titanium construction of that aforementioned Loop, and if you're hoping to see the Apple Watch Ultra 4 (in any version) marked down by anywhere close to $200 by the end of the year, then you must not be very familiar with how deals and discounts for the latest Apple products usually work.

Remember, our in-depth Apple Watch Ultra 3 review last year confirmed this was easily the best smartwatch you could pair with your iPhone (or even use by itself), and while that's no longer technically true, the Ultra 4 doesn't really change anything radically enough to truly leave its predecessor in the dust or justify a $200 premium. At least not in my book.
