The Nokia 9 PureView
HMD Global seems to be switching up its introduction cycle quite dramatically this year. The Nokia 6.2 was expected in February and the Nokia 5.2 was rumored for a June announcement, yet here we are in August with no sign of either device. But as pointed out by
NokiaPowerUser, the wait could soon be other.
Although official press invites are yet to be sent out, ‘HMD Global-Nokia’ is currently listed as an exhibitor at IFA 2019 (September 6 – 11) next month. There’s obviously no guarantee anything new will be announced – it could use the event to showcase its existing lineup of devices – but most companies tend to take advantage of the associated press coverage. For example, LG will be announcing a new flagship device this year while Sony has a history of introducing new smartphones at the event too.
In terms of what Nokia-branded smartphones might be announced at the event, both the mid-range Nokia 5.2 and Nokia 6.2 are very strong candidates at the moment. A successor to the Nokia 7.1 technically isn’t due until October, but the Nokia 7.2 reportedly shares its exterior with the Nokia 6.2, therefore making it another potential candidate for IFA 2019.
Regarding flagships, HMD Global was reportedly targeting a Nokia 9.1 PureView announcement in either August or September. However, the smartphone has reportedly
been delayed by a couple of months until the fourth quarter because of camera issues.
Ultimately, only time will tell what HMD Global has up its sleeves for IFA 2019. But if the company does have plans to introduce new devices, press invites should be sent out within the next couple of weeks.
