The X80 Pro Max sports some crazy specs! | Image by Honor
Remember the mysterious 10,000-nit phone from a couple of days back? Well, it's real! Honor teased the unveiling of the Honor X80 Pro Max on its official Weibo page, and sure enough, the phone sports a 10,000-nit display.
Look at that battery!
The 10,000-nit display claim may be the star of the PR show for Honor, but the X80 Pro Max features an 11,000 mAh battery on board.
That's the biggest battery in a commercial smartphone to date (if we don't count the 18,000 mAh Energizer phone, which was just an exercise in PR).
Honor is at the forefront when it comes to silicon-carbon battery technology, and the X80 is a living (well, it's not alive) proof of that.
The phone is expected with 90W wired charging capabilities and no wireless charging, probably due to lack of space because of the massive battery.
Given the modest chipset the phone is expected to launch with, the battery life could be measured in days. Speaking of chipsets, let's run through the specs.
Would you buy a phone from China with a 10,000-nit display?

The teaser posted on Weibo details most of the display specs, besides the crazy 10,000-nit brightness. We're talking about a 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz display refresh rate, ultra-slim bezels around the screen of just 1.3mm, and also the highest IP69K dust and water protection rating, along with SGS five-star drop protection certification.

The display in question will span 6.8 inches in diagonal, and we also know that the phone will sport a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 processor. The latter is quite new but still an iteration of the midrange 6 series Qualcomm silicon.
The main camera is expected to be 50MP, and finally, the phone will be available in four colors — Lightning Red, Moon White, Vitality Orange, and Xuanjia Black.
The Honor X80 Pro Max launches in China on June 22
The company confirmed the official date in the Weibo post — June 22nd. We don't know the price and different storage options, and there's almost no chance to see this particular model outside China.
Shipping and storage regulations for such large batteries prevent Chinese companies from bringing these huge battery smartphone models outside the local market.
Crazy specs, but do we really need any of those?
We need to test the 10,000-nit brightness claim in our lab. | Image by PhoneArena
I'm pretty sure the 10,000-nit claim is a marketing trick, and Honor measures the brightness of something like 1% of the screen. We need to test the phone at 100% APL (all pixels on the screen lit) to see numbers that correspond to real-world scenarios.
Meanwhile, an 11,000 mAh battery sounds absolutely great. Most modern flagships nowadays stop at the 5,000 mAh mark, and having more than twice that capacity will certainly help. Whether or not it will be a game changer depends on your charging habits and the time you spend away from a wall socket.
