Sony rolls out Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance

Sony Mobile is the next major smartphone company to released Android 7.1.1 Nougat for some of its products. The first handsets Sony picked for this occasion are the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance, two phones that made their debut on the market last year, both shipping with Android 6.0 Marshmallow on board.

The update contains the latest April security patch, as well as some improvements in the app shortcuts area. Since the Xperia Home launcher does not feature app shortcuts support, Sony fine-tuned it to make it work in this update.

Aside from the new compatible launcher that now supports app shortcuts and the April security patch, there aren't any details on the changes Android 7.1.1 Nougat brings to the Xperia smartphones.

Naturally, Sony couldn't have missed any of the native improvements included in Android 7.1.1 such as the new set of emoji that promote gender equality, as well as the ability to send GIFs from the keyboard on supported apps (Google Allo, Messenger, Hangouts.)

It appears that the Japanese company has just started seeding Android 7.1.1 for the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Performance, so it might take a while for the OTA file to arrive on all devices.

I wish the XZ premium would have better battery life than the S8 but I feel that I am daydreaming...

From what I read, the S8 has a 3000mAh battery and the XZ Premium will have a 3230mAh battery so no, you are not that far.

It all comes down to how the software is optimized. Samsung runs heavy touchwiz where as Sony has a lighter UI with barebones features overall. I owned a Z5 Premium for a few weeks and I had no issues with battery life. I always keep my 3G data on and usually i will end up with ~20% battery left with 4hr+ SOT.

Sony has less carrier and OEM bloatware, less tasking processes running on CPU you are correct the amount of mAh on a phone can represent jack sh**

Nice. Even they are releasing their new flagship, they dont hold updates to their previous flagships. That's commitment

Unbelievable how good Sony has become with updates. I cannot even think of any other major OEM to have updated their devices to 7.1.1 (except Google themselves of course).
