Samsung India refutes Micromax's statement of dominance, says it's still number 1
Earlier, we talked about a report by research firm Canalys, which claimed that Samsung has been knocked off from the spot of biggest smartphone manufacturer in India by one of the largest local companies – Micromax. Now, the latter has been steadily growing recently, and was also reported to have taken the first spot for smartphone slingers back in Q2 2014. Furthermore, Micromax is partners with Google, producing one of the Android One models for India, has partnered with Cyanogen to load up its phones with the most popular custom ROM from factory, and has recently released its own "flagship killer"-kind of handset – the Yureka – loaded with the OS in question. In other words – Micromax is obviously going places.

Now, just like last year, Samsung refutes the Canalys statements, saying that it's still very much ahead of the competition and quoting numbers from research firm GfK in support of that statement. According to the latter, Sammy India has maintained a 35.7% market share throughout 2014, while its value market share was 40.2%. In the last quarter of 2014, Samsung's share was 34.3%, according to GfK, whereas Canalys quoted a 20% share – quite the differing reports there, chaps!

Samsung says the GfK data is based on retail sales in cities larger than 50k population, so there may be a little leeway in there, but nowhere as near as a 15% difference in market share.
