Another phone gets what was supposed to be the Pixel 11's major advantage?

Let's talk about display materials.

In the US, the Pixel 11 isn't as popular as hits like the Galaxy S26 Ultra or the iPhone 17 Pro Max. But all Pixel phones are practically superstars compared to the iQOO brand and its devices.

Concerning Chinese phones, the general US consumer population is familiar with OnePlus and Xiaomi (and Huawei before its US-imposed ban), but nobody between NY and LA buys them. That's why OnePlus is in the process of walking away from the US market.

But iQOO (a sub-brand of Vivo's) could debut something fascinating. This company will soon release a phone called the iQOO 16, which could land with a display material that was "promised" for… the Pixel 11 family.

The situation

Per the latest information, the iQOO 16 will be the first phone ever to feature Samsung's M16 OLED display material, rendering it "the best 2K screen ever".

Pretty bold statement. Given that the iQOO 15 arrived with M14 material, I won't be surprised if M16 is used for the upcoming iQOO 16.

Everything Pixel 11:

Why is this important?

Now is a good time to talk a bit about OLED materials. These refer to the specialized organic compounds used to produce the light-emitting layers inside an OLED display. These materials determine how efficiently the pixels produce light and can have a major impact on brightness, color accuracy, power consumption and display lifespan.

Newer generations of OLED materials, as you can imagine, use more efficient or more durable chemical compounds. That's what makes it possible for a display to achieve higher brightness and better efficiency.

But does the Pixel 11 have it?

Currently, there's no official information about the type of OLED panel that Google's been using for the Pixel 11.

There were plenty of rumors several months ago which had it that the M16 was indeed going to be found on the Pixel 11 family. Since then, it's been awfully quiet. Once we get an official statement by Google itself, we'll let you know.

What's special about M16?

The M16 OLED material is designed to improve both efficiency and image quality. It removes the traditional polarizing layer from 2K OLED panels through a specialized photolithography process, allowing more light to pass through the display while reducing power consumption. The process uses a high-precision lithography system to etch well over 10 million pixels, creating a direct optical path between the light-emitting layer and the glass.

This should improve transparency and expand color gamut coverage, potentially delivering richer and more accurate colors. Despite its higher 2K resolution, the display is also claimed to consume less power than a 1.5K panel of an iPhone 16 Pro Max, for example.
