Rumor: 6-inch Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus to be released next year

Rumor: 6-inch Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus to be released next year
Samsung's next big thing, the Galaxy S8 series, could be officially announced in April 2017, more than 1 year after the Galaxy S7 family. While Samsung isn't ready to confirm anything about the Galaxy S8, we've heard plenty of rumors about it. The latest rumor comes from Korean website MK News, and has it that Samsung is planning to release a "Galaxy S8 Plus".

Reportedly sporting a 6-inch display, the Galaxy S8 Plus should be launched alongside a 5-inch Galaxy S8. Interestingly, both models could feature dual curve Quad HD screens, which would mean that there's no longer need to include "edge" in their names (since the curved edges won't be a differentiating factor, as they are between the S7 and S7 edge).

Although a 6-inch screen is quite large, the Galaxy S8 Plus could have about the same size as the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 7, thanks to minimized bezels and an impressive screen-to-body ratio of about 90%. Both the 6-inch Galaxy S8 Plus and the 5-inch Galaxy S8 might have fingerprint scanners embedded in their displays, though we also heard that the fingerprint sensors may actually be situated on the rear shell.

For now, we can't be sure of anything, save maybe for the fact that the Galaxy S8 series will be quite different from the Galaxy S7, and it should represent the main threat to Apple's upcoming iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

What do you think, is a 6-inch Samsung Galaxy S8 a good idea? Or would you rather have a 5.5-inch model next to the smaller 5-inch one?

A 6 Incher, eh? Isn't it a tad... On the 'freakish' side...? I wouldn't have any problem with it if I was a 'lady'... I've seen women using iPad Minis as a daily drive courtesy of a shoulder bag, bluetooth headset and in some cases, a smart watch as well... As a man, there's no way I can conveniently carry such a HUGE thing on a daily basis... It'd be cumbersome, to say the least... People say they need bigger screens for 'media consumption'... Well, you're better off with a tablet or even a Windows 10 hybrid, in this case... If you're going big, why not go ALL THE WAY, eh? Why stuck in the middle... "Neither sheep, nor a wolf"...! And besides, even a 4.5 Incher is plenty for this purpose, IMHO... Oh well... G'Day!

I have long fingers and rocking the xa ultra on the side. One handed operation is no problem for me.

That's the case with me too... I've big hands to handle a 6-inch phone... I handle a 5-inch phone with a single hand effortlessly, so 4.5 inches (or anything below 5 inches) is a joke to me.

I would drop a 5 in or 4in phones.lol

Just like cars, TV's, houses, etc. people actually like bigger phones. In this case, it's mainly the display that'll be bigger. It's okay to have variety.

But the difference is that nobody's hands are getting bigger

You say all of that then you say in my opinion. I have a og nexus 6. For me that is a perfect size. I won't be upset if you and others want the smaller size.

Thing is the bezels on the phone will be really small. So the 6" Samsung will probably be more like the 4.7" iPhone in size but all screen. Even the S7 Edge is much smaller than the iPhone 7 plus and has a larger screen and that margin will likely get bigger in the next generation... So I wouldn't worry too much.

"So the 6" Samsung will probably bemore like the 4.7" iPhone in size but all screen." No, there's no way the upcoming 6" Galaxy S8 can be of the same size as the 4.7" iPhone, no way - even if the 6" Galaxy S8 has a 100% screen-to-body ratio with edge-to-egde curves, it still will be bigger than the 4.7 iPhone. This 6" Galaxy S8 can be of the same size or smaller than the 5.5" iPhone, but not the 4.7" one... No way.

Yup. But...There will not be 6'' Galaxy S8 either. Fake news. More like 5.7'' for the bigger Galaxy S8. Same size as GS7Edge . Then Note 8 may be 5.9''.

S7 edge and iPhone plus have the same size screen

54. fyah_king unregistered

Yes, but the size of the iphone 7PLUS as a whole is a lot bigger than the s7 edge.

Because I can't carry a tablet everywhere I go, but a phone the size of the Note 7 packing a 6 inch screen fits easily in my pocket. 4.5 inch isn't nearly sufficient for serious media consumption.

You would think so, but I had a Sony Xperia Z Ultra and a Huawei Mate 8. Loved them. I currently have a Xiaomi Mi Mix, and I love that 6.4 inch screen.

Samsung has been copying apple’s unmoral things for years, such as switching replaceable battery to irreplaceable battery to let consumer pay more (especially when the potential EXPLOSIVE battery cannot easily be replaced resulting in this total recall), monopoly with selling galaxy note 1 only in ATT as apple did, and high-end large screen with note is limited to 5.7 during for the last 3 years, and etc. All of these disgusting apple things you have done are horrible from consumers’ point of view. And now you screwed yourself with note7. Here is how to fix the relationship with consumers, 7” high resolution screen for note 8. And 18” high resolution screen tablet runs both android and windows. If you don’t, other manufactures (like SONY AND Xiaomi already did 6.3” high resolution) will and your chunk of cake will be mini.

"monopoly with selling galaxy note 1 only in ATT as apple did," That was only for one year. Note 2 & beyond have been in all carriers. iPhone was was exclusive to AT&T for 4 years. Not a valid point. "If you don’t, other manufactures (like SONY AND Xiaomi already did 6.3” high resolution) will and your chunk of cake will be mini." This is just too asinine to even respond to.
