The Windows Phone emulators for classic Nintendo consoles - Snes8x (SNES), VBA8 (GameBoy Advance), and VGBC (GameBoy Color), now feature built-in support for the popular MOGA Pro controller - more specifically, its Pocket and Pro versions. We are uncertain if other MOGA products are compatible. In Windows Phone land, support for specific controllers has to be hard-coded inside each app. And, so far, we have seen only the MOGA Pro work with WP8 devices. However, the controller SDK for Microsoft's platform has been available to developers since the second quarter of 2013, so more games should emerge with support for these peripherals as WP-devices become increasingly powerful and appealing.

With this mini-lecture on MOGA controllers out of the way, here's more about each emulator:

Snes8x is a free Super Nintendo emulator for Windows Phone 8, based on the popular Snes9x. The emulator contains one game that is freely available. The update to version 1.4.0 brings MOGA controller support (Pocket and Pro versions), as well an attempt to fix virtual controller freezing issues. The emulator requires Windows Phone 8 GDR3.

VBA8 is a free Gameboy Advance emulator for Windows Phone 8. The app includes a free demo. The update to version 1.4.0 brings MOGA controller support (Pocket and Pro versions), an attempt to fix virtual controller freezing issues, and an in-app purchase to remove adds. The emulator requires Windows Phone 8 GDR3.

VGBC8 is a free Gameboy Color emulator for Windows Phone 8. The app includes a free demo. The update to version 1.4.0 brings MOGA controller support (Pocket and Pro versions), an attempt to fix virtual controller freezing issues, and an in-app purchase to remove adds. The emulator requires Windows Phone 8 GDR3.
