Report: Xiaomi's low priced Leadcore phone to launch April 8th
A bit more than a week ago, a China Mobile executive posted a photo allegedly showing the low-cost smartphone being produced by Xiaomi, using a Leadcore CPU. The device will be priced at the equivalent of $80 USD and received certification from China's version of the FCC (TENAA) in January. A report out of China on Monday says to expect the phone to launch on April 8th.

Today's report also reiterated the most recently rumored specs for the phone. The unnamed model is expected to carry a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280. A quad-core 1.6GHz Leadcore LC 1860 CPU is driving the device while the Mali T628 GPU handles graphics. 1GB of RAM is inside along with 8GB of native storage. A microSD slot will be available for those who need to add memory. The camera on back weighs in at 13MP and there will be a 2MP shooter up front for selfies and video chats. Android 4.4.4 is pre-installed.

No doubt selling a phone like this for the equivalent of $80 should help Xiaomi reach its goal of selling 80 million to 100 million units this year. But the bean counters aren't going to be terribly thrilled with the slim profits that the company will make with this model.
